I don't know who made the first one . . . but I'd sure like to thank him/her for a great idea! :worship:

We first saw one at the Fort in December 2004.

CDN it was a great idea. That link mentions seeing it in December of 2004 in the MH loop. The creative minds of some people astounds me:)

That was a great question. I always wondered how the lamp originated and glad to see somebody knew!!!

It appears to have started in 2005 by a member named Nickimouse (who is still a member, but I've not seen them on camping boards in years). Here is a link to the start

Hi!! You're right, I have not posted here in a long time. I read a lot more than I post! I check back once in a while to see if anyone has made a new Mickey lamp post. And today I see my name!
It sort of took on a life of it's own with many different variations.Fun to see!:thumbsup2

Years ago I saw a picture of something similar that was sitting in a flowerpot on a picnic table. The light bulb (no pun intended) came on and I told my husband about my idea. He took it and and ran!
A couple of years later I made a red bow and had a Minnie one too!

WOW good to hear from you and I guess you were the first from what I can tell and when this thread first appeared I saw you still posted ... just not here:goodvibes. So glad you are still a "luker" and willing to share when you have something to add. :worship: ... You in my opinion get the credit for the MLK originator. :thumbsup2 I think there are hundreds if not more folks just like you that read and only post if they have something really to add and not like in the past where some folks posted just to post and basically chit-chat.

Nickimouse it is so nice to "meet" you. I love your idea & since I was too inept, I had someone else make one for me. I absolutely LOVE it!! Now I even have different colored lightbulbs or costumes for the various holidays. Very happy to have you post here today. If you want to lurk, go ahead. If you'd like to just chit-chat let me know & we'll move to the community board to 'sit around the fire & chat' :)

"too inept" = Me. Check out my thread on the disaster mine became. However, due to much positive feedback and suggestions I have the courage to try again....

... now I just need the money :)

... if anyone wants to post some DETAILED inside, outside pictures it would be even more of an encouragement. I see plenty of completed pictures, but it'd be nice to see the inside of some lamps and closeups of the area where the ears meet the head.

I tell people who ask why that if I have to explain it then no amount of explanation will do.

Good luck . . . my strongest recommendation - a good heavy base. I like the patio umbrella stand from WalMart.

My suggestion is to not make it too tall. I have the standard height outdoor lamppost & it's way too tall for me to get the globe on it without using a stepstool. I need to get someone with a drill to take off a foot. CDN is right, get an umbrella stand:)
