Where did McCain go wrong?

McCain took that first step on his sad road when he decided to embrace Bush. He put aside his pride, his decency, and his self-respect for political expediency. Bush was riding high in the polls at the time and the field would be wide open in 2008.

From that moment on, McCain was never the same man.

If one has any self-respect, there are some things you may forgive, but you never forget. One of those "things" is the 2000 campaign Bush ran against McCain in SC. Not in my wildest dreams would I ever, ever embrace someone who used my child as a campaign issue.

Of course, Palin didn't help. Whoa, what was I thinking: Yes, she did. :lmao:

I'd just like to see you defend your candidate for making the decree to, "Get in people's faces and argue.". Make that sound respectable.

Yes, that's really it: McCain betrayed his own values, and in doing so, betrayed all of us who would have supported him if he had stuck to his own values.

When he became a party hack for the sake of winning power. He became the very thing he worked and argued against. In so doing, he sold his soul to the company store, lost his integrity and honor AND my vote.

The John McCain of 8 or 10 or 12 years ago would have gotten the vote of this life-long Democrat. The John McCain of today, I'd be hardpressed to find the courtesy to shake his hand. Like a previous poster, when I heard about his suck-up visit to Liberty University, I was agog and dismayed and that was the end for me.

Nice side step. Your candidate had and has the resources to take the high road that he has "claimed". Not very presidential to ask his supporters to, "Get in people's faces and argue.".

No candidate has ever won a national election as the target of a negative attack campaign such as McCain has waged, without responding in-kind.

I admired McCain at one time. I didn't necessarily agree with him but he had principles or so I thought. This guy comes across as wanting to win at any cost and I have trouble respecting who he is now.

It really makes you wonder who that guy was back in 2000...

Okay. Sounds like a double standard, but at least you are admitting it is negative. That's a start.

Watch and learn:

Getting in people's faces and arguing when it comes to politics is a time honored way to exercise one's first amendment rights. It makes for a healthy, lively discussion that can not only lead to a realization of common ground, but possibly changing someone's mind.

Rolling over and playing dead does not.

YMMV

A little decorum goes a long way, IMO. But thank you. You answered my question.
