Where can you drop off a rental car by DLR?

I arrive on July 9 to SNA at 10 am. There will be three of us, me and two DD's.

From my research, I think a Shuttle is $10/person (one way) so $30 total.
A cab is about $35-40.
A rental car is about $40 (or cheaper if I can find a better deal).

I am leaning toward the rental car because I want to stop at a grocery store for some supplies once we arrive.

We are staying at HOJO's or Desert Inn & Suites (haven't decided yet).

I will not need the rental car after we go to the grocery store and to our motel.
I also will not need any kind of transportation back to the airport.

So my questions:

Has anyone rented a car just for the day for transportation?

Are my price estimates of the various forms of transportation correct?

Where do you drop off a rental car near DLR?

Is it within walking distance to either HOJO's or Desert Inn?

Is there any other way to get grocery supplies (water, cereal, milk, fruit, snacks) without a car?

We rented a car for the whole time we were in DL. But I do know that there is a rental car company in Downtown Disney. HOJO and I also believe Desert Inn are walking distance. HOJO has a like market that you can get pastries, cereal, milk, etc....

Alamo is in Downtown Disney.

Enterprise is who we used & they will pick you up & take you to fill out the paperwork to rent. And they will give you a ride back after you drop off the car.

My parents had a previous issue that wasn't resolved w/Alamo prior to our trip (now resolved & fully refunded to their satisfaction) so we used Enterprise from San Diego & dropped it off in Anaheim. Approx. 3-4 blocks from DL. Very happy w/Enterprise & was the cheapest for us at that time.

We stayed at Desert Inn & Suites & were very happy w/them as well. We rented only for 4 days & when we settled in at DL (we did San Diego Zoo, Sea World, Lego Land & Universal Studios 1st) we returned the car & did DL. Then scheduled a Van Service for the ride back to the airport.
