Hello!

As the title says ;) we want to grab an iPad mini when we are over there as they're about 25% cheaper than here!

Has anyone bought one and if so, where from?

We are happy to do a mall trip!

Thanks :)

I dropped mine when there in May and took it in to the Apple store in Florida Mall, they replaced it for me cheaper than it would have been done at home. Claimed on my travel insurance when I got home.

I'd buy a smart cover off Ebay before you go as you can get one for less than a fiver and the guy in the Apple Store said it was as good as an Apple one.

Very busy store and I was told the day I was in was quite quiet in fact. He said it was because of tourists like me buying as they are cheaper.

ps the down side was my daughter spent a fortune in the Mall while I was in the Apple Store backing up my broken ipad and restoring the new one :rotfl2:

There's an Apple Store at the Florida Mall near Macy's which we have bought things in a lot(!).

There is also one at the Mall of Mellania.

That's good news, we were thinking of going to Milenia anyway :)

Tax does bump up the price though - do you know how much I need to add onto the price please? I honestly can't remember!

state sales tax in florida is 6%, but then the county probably adds something on too..
most counties in florida do...maybe another 1%?

We have bought a couple of ipads out there with about £100 each saving but the saving on the Mini doesn't look great.

Just compared some 16gb Wifi £269 or in US it converts to £229, £40 saving.

The 16gb Cellular version would convert to £319 if bought in US or £369 in UK a £50 saving. But there are UK deals which can bring price down, like this http://www.ebuyer.com/409327-apple-ipad-mini-16gb-cellular-md543b-a? with 4% Quidco = £316, a few £ cheaper than US

I wouldn't want to use holiday time to save £40 myself but I am not a shopper, rather buy online.

Also be aware that the higher spec more expensive models are higher than your customs allowance, so if you declare it by the time duty and vat is put on it'll actually be more expensive than buying at home, or you take a risk and dont declare it, if its open and in use it'd be difficult for customs to prove its new anyhow should you be stopped!

Ah. I hadn't thought of that. It's a present, so I'd rather not remove it from the box!! Plus we already have two iPads - one broken, so OH is getting himself a replacement - which means we would be coming back with an iPad 2 (broken), an iPad 3, an iPad 4th gen (I think) and an iPad mini... Might be tricky to slip that through customs with there being only 2 of us :)

Wayne I hadn't thought about cash back deals - that might actually be a better option. One of our iPads is now out of broadband contract so it might be cheaper to get a broadband deal with free iPad and just a wifi mini...

Hope you don't mind me hijacking  but I was wondering about what Ipad to buy when I'm in the US.

I know that you get Wifi only ones and ones that come with 3G connectivity kinda like a mobile contract. Am I right to think that since I live in the UK the only ones I can consider are the wifi only ones? Or is there a way to buy the 3g ones and take a contract back home?

Urgh - Holiday planning I can handle, IT and techie stuff just bamboozles me!

I seem to remember that AT&T models are compatible with UK sims but VERIZON is not.
I should do a bit of research to double check this. The other option is to try your phone sim, whilst in the shop - assuming it is the correct size. :thumbsup2

The tax is 6.5%.

I wouldn't buy the iPad at Walmart. I bought one and returned it when I found out they were flogging the older generation iPad called the new "iPad".

I then purchased mine at the Mall at Millenia and they told me at the Apple Store they only sell the latest version.

With the price of an iPad there is no reason to buy an older model, unless you get a great deal on a refurb at the Apple website. When Apple refurbishes they replace the cover, the battery etc. Other places that sell refurbs do not.
