I really need to scale back on some of my Dept. 56 houses and accessories. Any idea where I can sell them besides ebay?

Thanks - Diane:confused3 :confused3 :confused3

Hi Diane
I have seen some on Craigslist by me. But be VERY careful, as people will need to come to "see them" and you certainly won't want to have people coming into your home (and potentially casing it) to see what else you have. They're valuable and so's you safety!
Consider placing them on a table in your garage and having another person with you when showing/selling them. I have bought and sold them on ebay and when selling, just included my "costs in auction" as I know many feel teh fees are high. But it is really not difficult. There's also companies that will do it all for you for a fee, not sure what they charge though.
Good Luck!!!

They seem to go very well at estate/yard sales here. I go any time I see them advertised and they are usually already gone.

Look for local collectors groups or Dept 56 gatherings. Possibly check with some of the village publications. Haven't subscribed myself for a few years, but it looks like Village D-Lights is one that is currently publishing. Typically they let people place classifieds in the back, or have listing for people who are looking to buy collections.
Check out http://www.mattlake.com/links.htm. A bunch of gatherings listed, as well as some other publications, and secondary dealers that may be interested in buying them from you. Make sure to get an idea of their value first before you sell them. Check on eBay to see what that piece has been going for, also try looking in a copy of the Greenbook (secondary market values).

Good question.

Anyone know about Hummel collections?

My mom wants to sell hers but doesn't want to use ebay (either do I)

TIA.

I use craigslist and we have a local yahoo group for yard sales, but it is really for individual sales. Like the PP said I do not let people in my house, I usually hand them stuff at the door or in the garage. I also make sure my dogs are in so they are barking constantly.

I have about a dozen Fenton Art Glass pieces I am looking to get rid of. I do not want to do e-Bay and not sure how well they would go over on Craig's List in this area.
Are there groups for Fenton that I am not aware of? :confused3

Thanks for your help! :thumbsup2

wish I lived closer to you...my hubby has a HUGE Christmas village and we area always looking to add on to it. You could give Craigslist a whirl and see how it goes. If they don't sell, then you aren't out any fees or anything. I didn't know there was a YAHOO group dedicated to Dept. 56 collectors...hmmm
