Where can I find cheap plastic bins for recycling?

Our town only picks up recycling twice a month so it tends to pile up inbetween pickups. I am looking for some sturdy containers to use on recycling days to keep outside. I have looked at Target and Walmart and they are kind of expensive (well I found some for $10 each at Walmart). Anyone have any ideas on where else to look for some?

Thanks, Jen.

Did you check with either your transfer station, or the division of your town hall and see if you can get a couple more for free? That worked for me. I didn't elaborate as to why I needed them, and I didn't have to pay for more. We also have pay as you go trash service, and at 75 cents a small bag and 1.25 a large bag, my town heavily recycles everything. THings I didn't even realize should be recycled before moving here. Anyway a lot of folks use old garbage cans, not sure if you have any laying around or not, just another thought. You could likely use any old trash/laundry container you have hanging around, maybe check good will too. I just picked up a few pots for camping at good will. 3 bucks a piece, and they are actually really nice.

I have one extra bin. My town only charged me $4 for it.

When I need more than two bins I'll grab a laundry basket or even better a large cardboard box, usually from something I've bought or if necessary the warehouse store will have large bins where you can take them for free :thumbsup2. If it has a top I'll fold them down in then fill it up. Sometimes I get it back sometimes they take it but seeing as generally it was free I don't mind.

We have 2 large bins for free from our county - we just went to their office and they pretty much will give you as many as you want, so I would definitely check that.

Big Lots? Our county went to 'large' recycling bins. Ours overflows at the two week mark (when they pick it up).

You can't just bag up the recycle stuff? My husband bags our recycle things and then puts all the bags in the recycle bin each week. We do use two color bags. The normal black color for trash and then we use white for recycle.

Our town charges $20 each for the recycle bins, so I hear ya! I finally wound up using an old Rubbermaid bin that had a cracked lid. Tossed the lid and slapped the recycle sticker on the side and it works great, not to mention that it is super big compared to the tiny little bins from the town.
