Where can I find a live web cam of Main Street?

I've been reading The Everything Guide to Walt Disney World (year 2000) and it mentions a live camera view of Main Street USA and directs you to a disney website. I went there and the page is no longer available. A search for it didn't yield anything either. Does anyone know if it is still being done and where to find it?

I understand the reasoning, but too bad! It would be nice to see it on a live webcam whenever I wanted to get a quick disney fix

The final WDW webcam images were dated 5/21/01. The webcams were removed.

If you're thinking it was a response due to 9/11 you'd be wrong. The live webcams were shut down during May, 2001.

They may have been shut down before 9/11 but I am sure that is a pretty good reason they didn't put them back up. I am sure it is a security issue.

As you know, Disney stopped releasing attendance figures for their parks back in the 1980’s. Universal and the other major parks followed Disney’s lead. Amusement Business magazine (which closed May, 2006) and other industry parties were also shut out of attendance figures from Disney.

Interested industry groups had to develop methods to obtain accurate attendance figures for WDW and others. These methods ranged from counting cars in the WDW parking lots and aerial photography of the parks. They also used the WDW webcams to calculate attendance figures.

WDW decided to shut off the webcams because they didn’t want to provide any help to the business press in determining park attendance. That was the sole reason for the live webcam shutdown.

After all, why should Disney make the work of the business press any easier?
