Where can I buy US gas?

I'm looking but the sources I see online don't really feel reliable or credible so I was wondering if anyone on here has seen anything or knows what stations stick to US gas. The prices are finally normal and I'd like it to stay that way, more money in the bank accounts this winter means more guilt free Disney trips in my future lol :)

My heat is on in the 70's and I don't care, first time in a long time kids take the Jeep out and I don't wince. I see road trips in my future:flower1:

It is all US gas. There is no way to know where the oil came from to make the gas.

I am aware of the story but I'm skeptical, there are too many people very in tune with this to think no one knows.

I know how commodities markets work but that's not to say particular brands don't have a preference. Many are known to be outlets & sources for other regions, why not here?

I just don't believe that no one knows I just think it's not public knowledge.

1. If you are referring to the myth that you should only buy US gas, read this: http://www.snopes.com/politics/gasoline/saudigas.asp
2. From that article: "The bottom line is that by the time crude oil gets from the ground into our gasoline tanks, there's no practical way for consumers to know exactly where it came from."
3. Why would it matter? Just buy gas. "Buying American" in this case won't keep prices down, it doesn't get you better gas, it doesn't support fair trade...just buy gas and put your effort elsewhere where it can have an impact.

Why is it everyone posts what someone else thinks as a way to contradict someone? If you disagree just say so, I don't think anyone needs to justify an opinion. I give you props for thinking that way, people are neither right nor wrong so anyone can agree or not.

That said, I disagree. The whole reason prices are dipping is an OPEC move to crush the growing American source before they are strong enough to impact the markets in a long game sort of way. Smart really, except they inadvertently gave everyone who uses gas in the US a little raise which might be enough to spurn spending and give us a much needed cash infused jumpstart so yay- unless our side isn't looking and inflation stirs the pot... Time will tell. Anyway, if OPEC is willing to take millions and millions in losses ( check the news reports) in order to restore their favorite ogliopoly then I'm inclined to think there is something to it.

While there is truth in the benefits of competition on a free market the very nature of an ogliopoly is totally the opposite of that

Buying American would allow US sellers to prevent a glut so the only ones hurt are OPEC. There was a time this happened all the time & it kept us independent.

As for me, I just like paying less and want to keep it that way

--ps, the snopes topic looked made up from Google which is why I asked here

As intelligent as all this seems.....I wouldn't rule out the possibility that gas prices are so low because of the pending presidential election. Its a very pivotal time in our country both economically, and socially. I don't think the "improved economy" or the falling gas prices are coincidental. I'm sure there are plenty that disagree, but there's a false sense of stability and a growing sense of entitlement that is being fueled by current events. If nothing else, it will be interesting to watch.

Depends on where you live - there seems to be one place that advertises American Only in New York, Pennsylvania and Ohio. It's really not something I've ever thought about. If your goal is to reward low pricing, it seems better to research who has the most consistently low prices located near where you fill your tank and keep going there.

Gas prices are low because there's a glut of oil and global demand is soft. Yes, OPEC made a conscious decision not to pull back production to support prices. OPEC also doesn't have the same power it used to--too many non-OPEC oil producers.

Two edged sword. Gas prices are down because of an over supply of oil, OPEC manipulation, and our cars get better mileage*, plus many drive hybrids and electric cars. Here in California there is a push to switch from a gas tax to paying per mile you drive, because folks driving hybrids and electric cars aren't paying their fair share and their cars wear out the road just the same as a gasoline only car.

*At the time of of the OPEC oil embargo of 1973 I was driving a Buick Apollo (Buick's version of the Chevy Nova) that got 8 miles to the gallon in town, and 11 on the freeway.
Today I have a comparably sized Ford Taurus that gets 20 in town, and 27 on the freeway.

There are lots of reasons oil is cheap. China's economy is in the toilet, Europe is not doing well. Cars are more fuel efficient. Iran is now able to add their oil to the word market. OPEC is not reducing production (probably partially to knock the tar sand and fraking industries down as they need oil to be expensive to cover the costs). I do find the idea that opec and the president are artificially borderline laughable. The president has pushed alternative sources of power for years. He is not exactly bffs opec. I would think the republicans would be more interested in such an alliance given how cozy they are with the oil companies.
As for us gas, good luck with that. Once it's on the world market it's virtually impossible to trace. I would just enjoy the low prices for now because eventually it will be back up and we will all be moaning and hybrid cars will be all the rage again

Story? What story? :confused3 If you choose to believe in some kind of gas/oil conspiracy that is your right, but don't be surprised when people post facts to debunk your line of thinking.

I don't think there's really any way to know. I've been told that you can't even be sure that the 'brand' you are getting is that brand (Exxon or Shell, etc) because the gas actually all comes from the same big tanks down at the port.

This.

I have a friend who used to work as a chemical engineer at a refinery, and he would always pull up to the cheapest off-brand gas station he could find in his area because he knew it all came from the same starting point, just moved in different trucks.

Considering the limited number of refineries and nobody at those refineries is really tracking the country of origin for what's coming in and what's going out, we're all getting some homogenized blend of various sources, anyway.

At best, you can buy from companies that import a lower percentage of oil than other countries, but that just means somebody else is going to buy from the company you're avoiding.

If you want to buy American, buy an electric car. Electricity isn't imported.

the only sure fire one to avoid is conoco / 711 gas. That is a south american product. from oil to refinery.

Not sure if its all over, but on the noon news they reported that the gas prices in Indiana took a big jump today and its not expected to stop. Gas prices will continue to rise instead of going down.

I follow oil prices closely. I see no evidence of that (although with regular gas at $1.50/gallon they clearly aren't going much lower).

I haven't been out so I am just going by what the news said, we know how accurate they can be! I was going to call DH and tell him he might want to fill-up at the cheapest he sees on his way home tonight.
