Where can I buy real denim jeans?

You must be new at buying jeans. I've been buying then since the 80s, way before "stretch jeans" were even invented. ALL jeans material of even 100% cotton will have a slight stretch. It stretches diagonally, which is called "across the bias" of the fabric.
No. These new ones stretch a LOT, and are not all cotton denim. You can put your have in the back pocket and see how much it stretches just by opening your hand. They’re not the same I’ve been buying for 40 years.

I'm not talking about the "stretch jeans". All the stretch jeans are usually labeled as "stretch jeans and usually have 2% spandex or other stretchy material in the material content label. I'm talking about even the old 100% cotton jeans had a bit of stretch to them.

And I’m saying you can’t find those anywhere anymore.

IME you can find 100% cotton jeans in any store that prides itself on carrying multiple jeans lines, particularly Gap and OldNavy, but also most major department stores that carry several different types of jeans. It's an option like any other, and you should search for 100% cotton jeans. They are not as popular as the stretch ones as a general rule, but the fabric is more sturdy, so it's still valued by people who work wearing jeans; and particularly those who work outdoors, so western-wear or farm stores tend to have a lot of it. (I get a lot of family members asking me to repair jeans that have gone thin in the seat just behind the 4-way seam. That particular type of wear is specific to stretch denim that has been rubbing against the seat of an upholstered office chair; spandex (aka elastane) is very prone to friction breakdown. People who drive a tractor all day don't want that.)

A couple of months ago I was visiting my DS, who is in his late 20s. He says, "Mom, do you think you could take in some pants for me while you're here; I've lost weight." Now, this is my kid who is on the spectrum, and when he lived at home he would not touch blue jeans with a 10ft pole because he thought denim was stiff and uncomfortable, so I didn't expect that I'd be altering jeans, but all 3 pairs he wanted taken in were jeans. I asked what had happened that he was willing to wear jeans now, and he said that the addition of spandex took away the factor that made them uncomfortable.

Just goes to show that one man's trouble is another man's gift.

I think I mentioned Uniqlo upthread. Here is their fabric content:

@gmi3804: I agree that it's hard to find good jeans these days. I also hate all stretchy jeans. They're horrible!

Levi's still usually has at least a few colors and styles that are all denim, even outside of their premium lines. You just have to be really careful to look at the details. Last time I was looking, about 2/10 colors came in non-stretch for the style that I was looking at. Not great, but better than nothing.

Otherwise, you might have to buy higher-end jeans and hope that they last long enough to make the extra cost worth it. I really doubt that they will, though.

Look at Tractor Supply or Rural King if you have one. Rural King's cheap brand is 100% denim. Carhartt makes 100% denim jeans.

Those do exist, but they’re not very “middle-of-the-road. They’re more like “dungarees,” as my dad would’ve called them.
