Where can I buy "real" clothes?

I need to buy some "real" clothes... not those low-rise, muffin-top inducing, things most places sell. I need some new shorts for my upcoming trip and I have had good luck over the years with Lee Riders and Walmart's Faded Glory brand. When I looked last week, I wasn't able to find any Lee Rider shorts at all, and the Faded Glory brand only had low(er) rise. I did buy two pairs of the FG, but I hate the low rise!! I feel like I will be spending the entire day pulling up my shorts. And they are not flattering to my shape AT ALL. Call them Mom jeans, old lady pants, WHATEVER, but I need pants and shorts that come all the way up to my waist! (Probably need size 12 or 14.)

Two other criteria.... I need them soon (we leave in 18 days) and I need them reasonably priced (I WON'T pay more than $20... $25 if they fit TERRIFIC and look fabulous). I want plain, flat front, minimal pockets, denim and denim-type shorts...not shorty shorts and not knee length. (DD says I am being picky, picky). Has ANYONE seen anything like this around at a chain store??

BTW, I have looked at Walmart, Old Navy, Christopher & Banks, Coldwater Creek and Fashion Bug. I looked at Target, but that was several weeks ago.

Thanks for the help................................P

I like the Lee brand of pants/shorts, which are sold at Kohls and JC Penney around here. You didn't say where you were going, or if you did, it may have been in a different post. In any case, Vanity Fair outlets sells Lee brand items. We have a Vanity Fair outlet near our home, and they sell last years styles for $10-15 at times (which for basic shorts/capris/khakis, is fine). There is a Vanity Fair outlet in Orlando (I forget which outlet mall, however). I never could have made it through the last year without my cheap khakis from VF.

Kohls also has a website, and it is quick. I ordered something on Monday, and it arrived yesterday. If you know what you want, and you don't mind ordering on line, Kohls is nice, and they have good sales.

I buy from Lands' End (or you can go to Sears to find them). They sell classic clothing, not trendy, and I can appreciate that!

The problem might be that you are looking for denim shorts. I made the same mistake before my sister sat me down and explained that denim shorts aren't very in style right now. Now I know why I couldn't find a decent pair of denim shorts anywhere, not even a single pair at Kohls, Pennys, Macys. etc.

Okay.... I had some luck. MagicallMom, you are probably right that denim shorts are not in "style" right now, but I'm too old to care! Thanks for the advise! I am no longer interested as much in fashion as in comfort and good fit. And I LOVE denim....both of my kids have new denim shorts for the trip!

Anyhoooo.... I bought some Cherokee brand shorts at Target. They were inexpensive (12.99), natural waist (yahoo!), and fit well. I was actually able to buy a size 12. The 10's "fit" but were too snug to be comfortable all day, so I opted for the 12. It was a thrill, considering all of my current pants are 16 or 14 stretch. I bought denim and black. They weren't too expensive, so when I finally can fit a 10 I won't feel bad getting rid of these.
Thanks to everyone who took the time to post..........................P
