Where can I buy Harry Potter interactive wands when not in the parks?

Sorry if this doesn't exactly belong here, I wasn't sure where to post it. We'll be going to Universal in about a year and a half, but until then, my boys would both like interactive wands for Christmas. It looks like the only place to get the ones that work in the park is on the Universal online store, but their shipping charge is kind of ridiculous. Is there anywhere else to order them or does anyone know of any discount codes to knock the price down just a bit? Thanks in advance!

Can you buy non-interactive wands somewhere locally, and then buy interactive ones in the parks? I'm not sure that would be any cheaper though.

To be clear, they won't interact with anything unless you're in the parks. So there's really no reason to buy them this far in advance. And the only visual difference is a little clear "button" on the end of the wand.

Given that ds has actually broken one of his wands (they are delicate if dropped or hit in just the right way) while playing with it at home, I probably would just get them a more robust, unofficial, wand for now with a solemn promise of interactive wands at the parks in a year and a half.

I know they won't interact with anything outside of the parks, I just thought if I was going to spend $30 for a non-functional wand, instead I would just get the full blown version that would eventually do something. Sounds like those are not so solid, so I guess we'll look at some of the other options. Anyone know of a good place to buy one of the non-interactive wands? One of my boys wants the Voldemort wand, the other wants Harry's. Thanks again!

Having just been there, there is something to going into Ollivander's and picking out a wand. There are SO many choices and while they think they know what they want now that could easily change once you are there.

I just purchased Luna's interactive wand the other day through the Mercari app. It was listed at $25 shipped, but Mercari's doing a 10% discount right now so I paid $23 - less than half off the original price. If you don't mind purchasing the wand slightly used (mine comes with the box and map, and was listed as "like new"), the interactive wands pop up pretty often, and usually around the $20-30 price point. I haven't looked on Ebay yet, but I would imagine you can find similar deals there.

I don't know if you might be interested, but last year for Christmas I was given a Kymera wand. It's pretty cool. It's a wand you can program to do all kinds of stuff. You can work your tv with it, lights, candles, the radio, anything that operates off a standard remote. The wand can be programmed to mimic any of the functions on those remotes. I have mine set up to operate the tv and DVD player. It can turn my tv on and off, the volume up and down, rewind and fast forward, among other things. It holds 13 settings. The really cool part is that it functions similar to the wands in the park. You have to do a specific spell motion to get it to work. There are no buttons. You program which spell will do what. And you can reprogram any time. It's also nice that you can program multiple different devices at the same time.

For Example:

Turn tv on - flick wand up at tv
Turn tv off - pull wand back
Volume up - spin wand in circles clockwise
Volume down - spin wand in circles counter clockwise
Swish wand right - light candle
Swish wand left - blow out candle

You can find the wand on Amazon, and there are a few demonstration videos on YouTube if you are interested. The Kymera is a little pricy, but they also sell other brands for less. There is even a specific HP packaged one.

Depending on kids ages it might be a fun alternative. They could actually do magic at home and have some practice on how to do spells before going to the parks. I read a number of reviews last year where parents gave these to their kids to operate tvs or radios, and the kids really seemed to like them. Mine was very nice quality and came in a nice box for storage.

this sounds like a great deal. I think they are considerably more on ebay. Is Mercari a local thing or does the person do it to you?

Mercari is just a marketplace in an app, where anyone can buy/sell stuff. I believe it's country-specific, so if you're located in the US, you'll see US sellers. For buying, I prefer Mercari over Ebay because prices tend to be quite a bit cheaper, and sellers are usually willing to lower the price if you ask. The selection is a bit small though, and you have to check the app often as good deals get snapped up quickly.
