Just wondering where everyone is staying for Marathon weekend 2009. DH & I have booked a room at the Contemporary. I'm hoping this is a good choice (we're newbies) since it is so convenient to the monorail. I like the idea of taking the monorail to/from the race.

Where are you staying?

I am hoping for the Poly, I stayed there last year for the first time in 30 years. I liked being on the monorail loop for the getting up early and getting over to EPCOT!! I hope to be there, can't make a resie online with the marathon package because I don't need tickets. Last year I made it with the sports travel people, but they aren't doing it this year.
ANyway, I may look into the Beach Club being right next to EPCOT. If not any of that then I may go the POP route. I'll let you know.

I am staying at AKV. (I am not a fan of the monorail LOL!)

I think we'll be staying at WL. We haven't booked yet, but it is a resort my husband and I really want to try. I have heard the buses to the race are good from all the resorts, so I am using our personal preferences rather than proximity to transportation to make our decision.

Would love to stay at a monorail resort but I just can't justify the price so we are staying at Pop Century again.

Heck, our whole weekend with hotel, travel and food won't cost as much as a few nights at a monorail resort. But, for us this is just a race weekend and not really a vacation. It helps that we can drive up.

If we were traveling farther and it was more of a vacation then maybe I'd splurge as I'd get to enjoy it more. We have stayed at pretty much all the resorts at one time or another and pretty much now just stay at the POP for our weekend trips.

I do like the monorail resorts though! You are going to enjoy it.

enjoy,
Duane

I have a question about the YC/BC/Boardwalk hotels. I know they are right next to Epcot, but is there any benefit location-wise for staying there? The morning of the marathon you are supposed to go to the Epcot parking lot, correct? And being that early you wouldn't be able walk through Epcot to get there. So would you just have to take a bus?

Yup, the bus picks you up in the morning.
I liked it because after the race I was able to walk back
to the Beach Club and walk off
the lactic acid that was built up.
To do this you would need a park pass:thumbsup2

plus, the hot tub is an added bonus that you don't get in the values

Hoping for one of the monorail resorts or maybe BC. Or maybe I need a trip long enough to do a split stay :)

We're in for CSR right now. We stayed at POR last year and found it fantastic. I just wanted to try another resort. This reservation is subject to change based on AAA availability -- we go where the discount is!

We just signed up for team ASK (Athletes for Special Kids). Our fund raising goal is $2000. If we meet our goal, DW will get a 1/2 marathon race number and we will get a room at the Contemporary. If we don't, we will stay at our "home" at the Animal Kingdom Villas. All donations are appreciated :rotfl2:

We'll be at the AKV's but am hoping to be able to switch next month to BCV. Don't know if it will happen but we'll see!!

We will be staying at our home resort, VWL.

We are at CSR, wanted to try something new!

I made the plunge and called disney today 407 939 IRUN (4786). I booked the Poly to splurge a bit. Most of the times we go to disney for trips 3-4 times a year we stay value, but I liked the Poly lthis past Jan, so doing it again. If you are just booking a room and don't need the "package" ask for the code AEO, that is the basic code and doesn't include tickets and dining. Be there Thursday thru Monday.
Plus now I can make monthly payments which will help me with the cost of the room.
