Where are the African Americans at Epcot (Disneyworld)?

Just returned from a wonderful trip to Orlando and the Disneyworld area. We visited Epcot for the first time. It may now be my favorite Disneyworld Theme Park.

What I really enjoyed was the ethnic diversity at Epcot. I enjoyed watching and talking to the Epcot employees who were brought in from countries all over the world. There seemed to be countless languages spoken by the many tourists at Epcot showing America and the Orlando area seems to be very popular with foreign tourists.

Though where were the African Americans? My wife first mentioned to me that she did not see ANY AFRICAN AMERICANS during our first hour at the park, so I decided to watch my self and see if I saw any my self. After four hours at Epcot having past maybe 7000 people I saw my first African American visitor to Epcot, though she was with a group of whites. Finally as we were leaving the park, we saw one African American couple.

We maybe saw 10000 people in the park, but just a couple African Americans. What is the story? (We have seen many African American visitors to the Magic Kingdom and Sea World). But Epcot?

Maybe it depends on what time of the year you're there? I've seen a proportionate amount of AA when I've been there and a disproportionate amount of people of Oriental and Spanish decent. I've also felt like I was in the UK from time to time. It's interesting to see how the population of WDW varies from month to month.

When I was there on Wednesday I saw a Buddish Monk! That was a first. ::yes::

Just as I suspected the people on this board are afraid to touch this subject! They want to be politically correct and hide their heads in the sand.

It appears that Disney Parks may not be as open to ethnic diversity as I suspected. Especially at Epcot- the most intellectual of the Disney parks!

WHAAAA?

And it seems my intuition of you posting this to start a debate was right on.

"Disney Parks may not be as open to ethnic diversity as I supsected" ???? So what is it that you suspect? That African Americans are being turned away at the gate?

For what it is worth, not that I pay any attention, but I have seen MANY MANY African American's in Epcot.

What the heck kind of question is this anyway?

Oh give me a break. :sad2:

That explains it! She must of been "allowed" in because she was with whites.

You are a very scary person. :sad2:

hmmm...you know, I always have better things to do with my time at disney than critique the ethnic diversity. And, I don't think I would EVER notice who was around me because I don't catergorize people by color or ethnic background. To me, they are all there for the same reason I am and that is enough for me.

I would not normally reply to a troll thread, but since you toss out the challenge, Con, I must say, that when I personally am touring Epcot, or any of the other parks, I do not make a point of looking for, nor counting the various colors of the people in attendance.

You might get more attenton on a KKK or skinhead site as opposed to a Disney site.

Go Dan!

Conersationist, am I really understanding this correctly that you're concerned that aren't enough black visitors at Epcot? You can't honestly think that Disney is turning them away at the gate or doing something mean to them if they do come in. I can't think of any legitimate reason to bring this topic up.

That should be people of Asian decent. Oriental is a rug. Asian is a person. Most of my Asian friends take offense to the Oriental reference.

I can't say I would have noticed what the ethnic mix was on any given day in the parks.

Maybe they could start using separate entry gates for each ethnic group and then not let any more caucasian visitors in when the balance wasn't quite right. An Affirmative Action plan for Disney. :rotfl2:

The only time I ever really notice is when there is a large contingent of South American Tour groups....just because they are always following the flag person and are in very very large groups....hard to miss. The summer I went when the World Cup was here it was very difficult to avoid the groups. As to the OT....Disney isn't keeping anyone out who ponies up the money for the tickets regardless of race. Now if you were to say there weren't many "poor" people at WDW there is definately a reason for that....ticket prices!!!!!

I think you're right.

What's wrong with noticing someone's race?

If the OP had said he didn't notice many women around would people had gotten upset? Would you think he was a sexist and trying to start a debate?

There were plenty of times I looked around and noticed that my son and I were the only black people in a certain areas. There were also times I noticed that I was the only single parent around.

I'm sure one man was in a holding area with about 50 women, he'd notice that he was the only man in the room.

To the OP, Disney could care less what color we are. As long as we all spend our green money there, the powers that be are happy. :cool1: I plan to give them plenty of my green money in April. :rotfl: :rotfl2: :cheer2:

Clearly, people of every racial background and national heritage are welcome at all of the Disney parks.

Because I think this was posted simply to stir up controversy, I'm closing this thread.
