Where are standard WL rooms located?

I have stayed at WL before but this is the first time I have reserved a standard room. Trying to save money since there are no discounts to be had.

Can someone tell me where the standard view rooms are located. I know that at least some of them are located above Whispering Canyon. Were are the others? Are they all over the lobby area (ie also over the front desk) or are there any down any of the hallways away from the lobby?

Can you hear the lobby noise from inside your room if your door is over the lobby? Can you hear the niose from Whispering Canyon?

We are generally early to bed early to rise people and are somewhat concerned about noise in the late evening. If some standard rooms are much quieter then others, we may request one of those. Are the rooms higher up quieter?

Also, I know the hotel has lots of available rooms druing the first week of August when we will be there. How likely are we to get an upgrade? Is there any way to politely suggest that we would like one or should we be silent about it?

The standard view rooms are generally the parking lot view at WL. A Woods view (on the side of the resort, but over looking a Service Area) is generally a little more expensive, but not terribly so. Courtyard view is either the inside courtyard or the outdoor pool area, sometimes the rooms over look the villas.

You can request anything you like, just remember that it's a request not a guarntee, and that the more you make the less likely you are to get any of them.

I don't recall seeing any rooms that actually look over the parking lot (I don't recall seeing any balconies from the front of the building). Don't they actually face to the side? I recall reading that some of them look out over the delivery area which is behind Whispering Canyon.

I am not actually concerned about the view. I don't plan on spending much time on the balcony in August. I am most concerned about the noise level if all of the rooms open to the lobby. Are there rooms that do notopen to the hallway over the lobby or are all of the standard rooms located there?

Can someone who has stayed in a Standard view room provide me with feedback on the noise in the rooms over the lobby?

I also read that someone reserved a standard view and wound up on the first floor down the hallway across from the Mercantile and the game room. Does anyone know whether that is actually a standard view or whether the person got upgraded??

I have booked WL standard view a few times - this is what I received.

- Accessible room, ground floor, down the hall from Roaring Forks. Since I was alone that stay, I didn't like the ground floor and sliding door to outside, so CM was very willing to move me. My 'standard' room became high floor, outside facing VWL, end of the corridor near the water

- high floor, courtyard view

- high floor, courtyard view, about 2 rooms away from the end of the corridor with a great water view

My point is that of the three times I booked 'standard', I only received a truly 'standard' room once, and requested to move if something else was available. Now, I will admit that these stays were all during Sep or Jan when it's not too busy, so I can't comment on a stay during busier times. It was nice to experience these upgrades, but I would not recommend that anyone expect an upgrade if the hotel is busy.

We just returned....had two rooms - one standard view and one woodsview. We were travelling with my in-laws. Both rooms were side by side directly above the registration desk (opposite from WCC). I am not sure if my in-laws, with their std. view, were upgraded or if we, with our woodsview, were downgraded. The rooms were fine. We had 5090 and 5091. They were the 2 end rooms on the right side when you stand out front and face the lodge. Nice view of the front driveway and the pretty flowers that line it. We also had a view of the parking lot !

As for noise....we slept in a few days. We could hear the ringing of the bell and the "Come and get it" from the WCC but I honestly only think that it was because we were already "stirring" and waking up anyway. My 2 daughters didn't stir at all. It was not very loud. We only heard it if everything was off in the room. We were directly across from WCC and I would guess that our rooms would be the perfect spot to hear everything that went on there. Twice we came back late and there was a hugh CRANE in the lobby which was very noisy. It was 12:30 - 1 am ther about, and they were dusting the poles and lights (I assumed). It didn't go on for long but I was not very happy when I first saw and heard it. I think it was only noisy when they raised the platform, then it stayed up for quite sometime. I can only assume that we were out cold because it did not wake us.
