Where and How do you store all of your scrapbooks?

I have read about all the Disney Scrapbooks that everybody has, I have a few myself (4 for 07 trip). I was wondering how everyone stores so many. I have run out of space but it ain't stopping me. I still have to finish 07 and I haven't started 09 yet.

I have so many scrapbooks - not just Disney, but I make a book a year, plus our "big" trips like our honeymoon, 1st anniversary cruise, Vegas, etc. I also have books from trips to Europe I took with friends and family years ago, plus 2 books of my oldest niece, and decade books (1970's, 80's, and 90's), a memorial book for my parents, a book about our house improvements, and many, many more. I keep them all on bookcases in my craft room, but I have run out of room! I need to reorganize that room because I know I can make space, I have several shelves that I've allocated to other things and I'll have to reevaluate and make more scrapbook room.

So, I'm probably zero help to your dilemma :rolleyes1 but I think a lot of us are out of space :headache:

We have a wooden front desk from an old hotel in our living room. We store all of our albums on the top of that.

They're all in our living room. Some are in our entertainment center which has one nice and deep shelf. Others are in a regular bookcase - they do hang off, but it's the best solution now. It's full, but I have a little room to grow if I move other things. One day I would like to find a bookcase deep enough to hold the 12x12s without them hanging off.

Let's see . . . older than 5 years, upstairs in the library on two bookshelves. 8x8, under the glass top coffee table between the pedestals, and on the sofa table in a book rack. Recent 12 x12s, Under the sofa table on the shelf. Mini-books, in a basket on the sofa table. Albums in progress, on the shelves in the diningroom. No one place is sufficiently large for all of them.

We live near the "station fire" and being paranoid I bought a gun safe (6 ft tall, 3 ft x 3 ft) about 2 years ago to store my scrapbooks. When we got the call at 3 a.m. to evacuate, my DH agreed that it wasn't such a crazy idea after all. I have about 30 albums (my grandkids think I am the paparazzi) and still have some room left in the safe. May be time for another after this years trip.

I have half of them on the buffet in my dining room - its solid oak and very deep, but it has a plate rail which makes it difficult to push them all the way back. So it leans forward slightly.....:rolleyes1 The rest are in the bottom part of a display cabinet (the top half is shallow and has DVDs) but they have to lie down, and the new sof comes very close so its hard to get them our:headache: I have a lovely new unit which has our shoes on, so if I can manage with only one pair of shoes per person maybe I could put some on there.....:rolleyes1 Like THAT will happen:rotfl:

My wedding and each babybook is in a special cornor glass cabinet with other wedding stuff showcased.

My other albums are in a big bookcase/tv unit in the family room some seen and some behind doors.

BRILLIANT! Expensive, but BRILLIANT!

HOLY COW!!! I LOVE that idea!!!! I am not a worrier, but I have been fire-phobic my entire life. I have ALWAYS had a fear of losing important "things" in a fire (I know, I know... as long as my family was safe, that would definitely be the most important.... but it wouldn't stop me from be crushed by losing other things!!).

I bought a small fire safe for papers years ago and have considered buying something larger for keepsakes... but I have SO MANY albums I didn't think there was any way of buying something large enough. Is is truly fire safe? I know when I was looking at smaller fire safes (back in the day of storing photo negatives), many of them wouldn't guarantee that they would be safe for certain things like photos. Anyhow, thanks for the idea. That is DEFINITELY something I am going to keep my eye out for, maybe on Craigslist or at a yard sale??.............P

All of my scrapbooks are in a 4x4 Expedit shelf from Ikea that is in our family room. I have a section for each of the categories in my Library of Memories, one section for each of my kids' school albums, one section for mini albums in a basket, one section for Disney scrapbooks (although I have outgrown it), etc. I really love it. I know I will run out of space eventually but I can get the 2x4 Expedit in the same color to add on another 8 sections to the 16 I currently have. After that, who knows what I will do. But what a problem to have.

A gun safe is brilliant!

I currently have my yearbooks, 8 x 8s and minis in the glass cabinet in my famly room. I have outgrown the area, so I will be getting rid of some books that are on the shelves to expand. My Disney books are in the bottom shelf of one of my side tables in the family room since my niece likes to pull them out and look at them. Albums in progress are on shelves in my scrapbook room.

I have the Markor bookcase in my dining room, and use most of the shelves to display my crystal, but the bottom tier does have a random scrapbook and some scrapping supplies.

How many albums does the bookcase in your hallway hold?

mine - let me go count....

There are 10 cubes and depending on the thickness of the album (CM albums) the majority have 6 albums each. There are at least 2 with 7 albums and 1 shelf has smaller non-cm post hinge albums (about the size of the albums that they sell at WDW) and there are 9 of those.

I load my CM albums probably larger than I should. I average about 37-38 pages per coverset and never less than 30.

So my minimum would be 60. It isn't full. Yet.

I realize in looking back that I never actually answered the original question!

My scrapbooks are stored in my bedroom. They were on a large bookcase (in the bedroom), but we did some furniture re-arranging and the entertainment center from the living room got moved up here last year and the books got moved to there. I have just four small shelves at the moment... two shelves for DS and two for DD. I have a total of 16 books for DD (her shelves are overfilled with two albums lying horizontal on top of the others) and about 12 for DS. I have a few shelves above those that hold decorative items and photos in frames... I could re-arrange and put some books up there eventually, but I don't quite need to yet. The large bookcase that used to be up here got moved to the office, so I could also move the albums down there if I wanted/needed to... but I like having them upstairs.

Check Costco - they occasionally have them. I found mine on the internet - it's fire rated for 4 hours. I would hope the fire dept would arrive by then. It may not be perfect for photos but I figure it's still safer than nothing.

oooh... thanks for the heads up about Costco.... I was just thinking that we might need to head there this weekend for some fruit and veggies.

DH will think I am losing my mind when I start checking out gun safes!! As if this scrapping hobby isn't expensive enough, now I need a "safe" to keep the goodies in! :rotfl:..................P
