So my family is planning a trip to WDW this year there will be 6 adults (one having their first trip) 3 children (ages 13,10,3. the 3 years olds first trip) however we are trying to decide between two times when everyone can go. the two choices are the week of memorial day in may or the 2nd or 3rd week in august. Please help me try to respond as no one in my family seems to care when we go between those times im trying to figure out the better time to go so all of your opinions and input is welcome. Thanks in advance!!::MickeyMo pluto:

Hi and Welcome to the boards!!! I have been there close to Memorial Day weekend and it was a little hotter then I like but not bad. Given between the two no way would I go in August:scared1:. Unless you and the party you are traveling with are use to the heat and humidity. It is really bad at that time of year and more crowded, though I've known a few who say yeah it was really hot so what! Hope this helps.

I agree with disney54us. My very first trip to WDW was during Memorial Day weekend. It was really hot and humid and the crowd level was really high, but I've heard that it is much worse in August. If you are able to go to the parks on the weekdays instead of the weekend and arrive early at the parks, you should be all right. You'll probably get a lot of great tips for dealing with the heat, crowds, etc. on the Disney Tips board. :thumbsup2

thanks you two, but i dont know if the weather will bother us since we have gone twice in august before but with a young child it will probably factor into the decision. do you think there will be any difference in crowds? the official guide to disney world book says that they are both very crowded times of the year

I agree with the PP's. We haven't been to WDW in the summer, but we went to Sea World in late July and it was horrible! The crowd wasn't really too bad, but the heat and humidity made everything so much more stressful! We have a WDW trip coming up in 5 days, but it will probably be our last for quite awhile. DS goes to HS next year, so it probably won't be as easy to take him out of school to go, and there is no way I'd go to WDW in the summer. Last January, DH and I said that if this was the off season, I'd hate to see the busier times of year. That coupled with 90+ degree weather...:scared1: Go when it's a little cooler. IMHO.

Sorry, I didn't read that last post to see that you have already been in August and know the heat situations. So I got nothin' :confused3

I've never been in August either, but I've read about how hot it is. One thing to consider, in favor of August though, is that the past few years Disney has offered free dining for the months of Aug.& Sept. I don't think it's been officially announced yet for this year, but that's something you might want to check out!

Hi, I also missed that you had been in August. If your worried about your little one, I always remind people of the baby stations located in every park. They are great:thumbsup2. They have large changing rooms, high chairs to feed the kids and they sell everything from extra binkies to formula. It is air conditioned and sometimes that's what they need a little quiet time out of the heat.

Don't worry, it may not be as easy but I do it:guilty:. I was concerned when DD was going into HS, but you would be surprised how many kids are out for family vacations. With enough notice, it has not been a problem and the teacher have been fine w/it. It does seem that through the years there is less and less of a "off season".

If cost is a factor, the Disney resort prices are lower beginning on Aug. 3, for values and moderates, and July 20, for the deluxes. Checking in on May 22, will cost approx. 25 - 30 dollars more per night, in all categories.

Disney has offered free dining for the past 3 years, however, it started the last week of Aug.

As for crowds, Memorial Day Weekend is predicted to be as high as August, but the rest of the week in May should have lighter crowds.

August is during hurricane season.

We went the first week of August in '07. We knew it would be hot and humid but we had to go during summer break/value season. We were at the parks in the morning for "rope drop", stayed for an early lunch, went back to the hotel for a pool/nap break, then went back to the park for dinner, more rides and fireworks. As long as you're prepared, water misting fans, bottles of water, wearing the right clothing and knowing when to get out of the heat, it's really not so bad. USE FASTPASSES! And three little words that saved our lives: Tour Guide Mike. WORTH IT! LISTEN TO HIM!

I don't think I would go in August if the trip was free. I can't stand the heat..

I have been in MAy and it is great. School is not out and spring break is over.

My favorite time is early December.

Hi, I'm new to the board but I'm a WDW castmember. The best time to visit is between now and Presidents day weekend if you're interested in very nice weather and very small crowds. The end of August and all of Septmeber is a very slow time for us, but it is still hot. The end of August is much better for smaller crowds than the week of Memorial day. Hope this helps.
