for best price. The sooner the better, three months in advance or when? Would fares be cheeper 331 days in advance or 3 or 4 months?

no the fares aren't cheaper 330-340 days out but if your travel is around a peak time like spring break or xmas and thanksgiving then you are better off booking asap and then getting the refund voucher for the difference in fare when they bring out the sale price. like right now they have sales for the whole summer up until the end of sep and some are even going until oct. they had a sale out 2 weeks ago too. and then they will have more for the rest of summer throughout the summer. the 4th of jul sales won't be out usually until the week before that day. last dec sales didn't come out until oct 15th last year and I expect it to pretty much be the same this year as well. I know when the sales come out and how the fare structure is because I worked in res for an airline for close to 13 yrs then I went to the tkt cntr.
when are your travel dates? most of the time the better fares are 21 day advance notices and sometimes 30 day and then they also have a 14 day and 7 day advance. there are even 3 day advance fares. just because its a 21 day advance doesn't mean that you should or can only buy your tkt 21 days in advance. it could actually be 2-3 mths in advance when they have the better prices out.

Sorry so long to reply Beverly Lynn....got lost doing those @#$% reward programs.LOL

We're not going until May of 2002:rolleyes: but I didn't know if it'd be best to make the ressies now or wait....what ya think, Beverly?

It depends on where you will be flying from and if you are flexible. I see you are in Lexington, KY, but if you can fly out of one of the nearby cities that Southwest, Airtran and/or Delta Express serves, the fares could be a lot lower if you wait until January or February. Also sometimes Cincinnati has good fares if you are willing to change planes.

So when is the best time to purchase
for travel during the lst week of November 2001?

It is so funny. I drove myself absolutely nuts trying to decide where we would stay. After months of going back and forth I finally decided. Now I am doing the same thing with the airfare. We aren't going until Feb 1, 2002 but I have been making myself insane about it. Sometimes I think I should just stop with the debating and purchase some tickets and not think about it again.:bounce:

Hi jennymouse! I'm from Ky also! I work in Lexington.
We are going to fly out of Louisville. Lex. doesn't offer any direct flights but Delta does from Louisville. We just bought our tickets in May for our Sept. trip and paid 205.50 for them. They just went down to 179.10 so we got credit vouchers. A year ago when I started looking they was over 300.00. Good luck! :D

you have enough time to play and wait. there will definitely be some sales coming out for your may trip. not now however. the earliest is usually 6 mths out for any type of sale but if you can be flexible with using an alternate airport then you would have a better shot at getting the best price. there are times you do get a better price on a direct or connecting flight as opposed to a non stop. but the 10-20 isn't worth the hassle of connecting in my book. I like my non stops! LOL
