When you voted for the very first time, what was your immediate feeling?

I remember decades ago my father telling my mother who she “will” be voting for. She probably just humored him and then did what she wanted.

It was common 50+ years ago for men to tell their wives how to vote.

That’s so funny, my parents were the same. For the most part, they had the same political leanings, but I suspect there were a few times when their votes cancelled each other out. Once my Dad said to me, “WE are voting for X.” I told him that women were not given the right to vote so married men could vote twice!

When you voted for the very first time, what was your immediate feeling? Happy, excited, nervous, meh…etc?

I was excited to vote. But I also had a really bad cold (flu?) and felt so bad I was just relieved to be done waiting and out of the hot, stuffy school gym so I could go home and rest.
