does it have to be the person whose bag it actually is? Or can I put mine and my husband's names on all the bags -- even the kids'?

You can put both names on all the luggage. Our luggage tends to only have my name since I'm the one who makes out the tags.

Be sure to put another piece of paper inside with identification as well in case your tag gets ripped off. I just print out a few papers with our name and cell phone numbers and destination and pop one into each bag, including carry ons. VOILA :)

If you put your home addy, big tip off that you're on vacation. (Eg invite to robbers.)

Plus, with the work addy, there's always someone that can be contacted (vs spotty cell coverage, or if we're on a plane, etc...)

I use our last name, work address and work phone.

I never put child's name on luggage. I never put home address on luggage. (Safety first and always...there's some crazy people out there)

You may want to do this. Inside each piece of luggage including carry-ons put a 3 X 5 card size note.

On the card put
YOUR NAME C/O
YOUR RESORT NAME
DATES OF STAY AT THE RESORT

Should your luggage get separated it may get delivered to the resort this way. If heaven forbid a piece of luggage gets lost and turns up after your trip is over, the resort would be able to check when you were there and still have your reservation information on file and may call your home. The above is the same information I put on the outside luggage tags. That way no private address or phone number is ever displayed externally.

A co-worker who traveled a lot gave me this tip.

I usually put a name on the outside and an index card on the inside. I usually put:

Name
cell phone #
Disney's Beach Club, May 5-10, 2008 (where & how long we're staying)

That way if the luggage is delayed or lost they know where to bring it, and have a contact #.

Also, when packing I divide up stuff in each suitcase incase one bag is lost everyone will still have something..:woohoo:
