When you leave a Condo, how much to tip?

We usually leave a $10 bill after our week at a timeshare and we don't get the mid-week clean. When we had the lock-offs at Vacation Village, each couple on each side left $10 so that was $20 for the week...

Are we leaving enough?

We always tie up or throw out our garbage, run the dishwasher and strip the beds....What do you leave as a tip?

Also, when we stay in a hotel for 4 or 5 nights, we decline the daily cleaning and leave $10 for the last day...Is this ok?

I think you're more than generous, most people don't tip cleaners in timeshares or vacation rental homes at all as far as I know. They do get paid, and get paid fairly, not like a hotel housekeeper. Actually, you're paying them to clean the place as part of your rental rate, if you look at it that way, so I would only tip minimally. Also, they don't even clean every day typically. Just my opinion! If someone goes out of their way or does something special for me (anyone, not just housekeepers), then I tip more, but probably not in this case.

The only times I know of tips being left is if a late check out has been arranged as this can sometimes put a strain on the cleaning gang so it's by way of a thank you.Other than that the cleaning charge is usually included so by tipping you are being very thoughtful.

I only tip housekeeping at timeshare resorts that offer daily or mid-week housekeeping services.
Leading up to our way out we take care of our trash, leave used towels together in a tub, clean up the counter tops and tables, strip the beds, vacuum if necessary, and start the dishwasher to clean anything that we haven't already cleaned and put away. So, hopefully, there's not a lot of work for the cleaning crew to do.

I won't be tipping when I stay at WH because I am already paying a $70 cleaning fee. :)

I also don't tip. And I'm really not a cheap person!:rotfl:

Just never thought of it before. I figured since I don't get "housekeeping" during the week and the cleaning fee is usually included in the rental, it never even occured to me.

Just curious. If you do all that, what's your rationale for leaving a tip??
Surely you have a reason other than reading about on these boards..

Wow, I thought I was undertipping and it seems that I am not.

The reason I do those things like run the dishwasher is that they are included in the check out procedures. I would probably still do it because we own a weekly rental chalet business and we apprecaite it when our customers do it.

We leave a tip because we have always left a tip for the housekeepers at hotels and motels, and my housekeepers here get some tips also.

Wow, I guess I was way off. (just this once... )

We've only tipped once in such a rental situation. We wanted to leave an hour later than normal and spoke to the cleaner by phone. She asked us to start a wash, which we did, and I left her a thank you note with a ten.

We always tip hotel housekeepers and we leave a five for housekeeping when we rent a cottage over a long weekend, even though they don't provide daily service.

I'm sure the cleaners appreciate the tip you leave - we all like a little extra cash,

I don't tip when I stay at condo. We pay a cleaning fee, so I didn't even think of tipping. I also run the dishwasher, and usually start a load of wash. (What do you do if there's no detergent in the condo and they ask you to start a load? This happened to us last time, and I happened to have detergent with me)

Once, I saw housekeeping outside at another condo nearby and asked her for a packet to run the dishwasher. Another time, I loaded up the dishwasher and left its door open so the housekeeper would see it needed to be run as soon as they came in. Usually, we have extra detergent and it's not a problem.

We tip $10-$15. I figured someone had to clean our villa (which is large) for our check-in and then they have to clean it again when we leave. Even though we also take out the trash, they still have major cleaning of the bathrooms (showers/tubs/sinks/toilets), jacuzzi, floors etc.
I appreciate coming in to a clean villa not to mention alot of those timeshares don't have elevators and I see them lugging buckets, huge bags of clean linens/towels etc up 2-3 flights of stairs. I appreciate their effort and the upkeep of my timeshare so I just feel it's my little way to say thanks to the housekeepers. :thumbsup2

We also don't tip unless we have daily or midweek cleaning. I always do what ever is instructed to do by the TS for exit procedures plus a little more. Keep in mind that not only is the cleaning that is done after you exit your TS part of the maint. fee's but the cleaning staff almost always keeps what ever you leave in your refrigerator. Some of it I am sure they toss. Only so many bottles of ketchup you can keep but some stuff they do keep. That is like a tip in itself.
