First of all, don't flame me. I'm not complaining.. just trying to understand!!

I am a teller... and my office has been trying to figure out WHY people wait in line to go to the first window, but avoid the tube lanes?

I'm the 'push' window teller, so I get the line. Doesn't bother me, as we're slow and it's something to do... but...
It was 4pm and I had SIX cars in the line, with the other two completely empty and two other tellers just standing behind me with nothing to do.

We are perplexed by this. Why? Why would you wait for 5 other people when you could go to another lane and be done in about 3 minutes?

Anyone able to explain this to me?

Possibly the RED lights were on on the other lanes!

That's funny. I don't know why they would.

Maybe it feels like more of a face-to-face transaction? But I'd definitely go to the shorter line!

If I saw 5 cars in one lane while the other two lanes were empty, I "might" assume the other lanes are closed.

I can answer from personal experience...

I have some family members who aren't comfortable with three aspects of the "tube lanes." One, it intimidates them as they don't know how to use all of the buttons. Two, they are afraid that their money, checks, whatever will get "stuck" in the tube. Third, they want to talk to someone and they want to be able to see their face - not rely on pushing a button. They can't tell if you can hear them or if you can't.

Now, can you answer my question?

Can you hear me arguing with my DH when we're waiting for our deposit slip? :rotfl2:

I almost always wait for the window. Mainly, it's b/c I'm paranoid that I won't be able to figure out the stupid tube thing. I also don't pump gas anywhere except Wal-Mart b/c I'm afraid that I won't be able to figure out the pumps. I do not like trying new things & I'm afraid of looking like an idiot.

I DO THIS! It has something to do with the tube thing. I think I'm afraid I won't know how to work it. I don't know! I ALWAYS go to the window. I'm weird that way.

My DH (in this case, Darn) is a sheep. He just automatically follows other people. Drives me crazy.

Can't answer you because we always do the tube - DS LOVES watching the thing shoot up the tube and come back again.

Most of the banks around here don't have a teller at the first lane. That lane is usually reserved for the drive-up ATM machine.

Since we're talking about banks, can I share one of my pet peeves? I hate when people feel the need to park themselves between two lanes so that they can "decide" which one they want to go to after the person before them goes. If you can't decide, I'll decide for you ::yes::

Well, at my bank, the push window is commercial only. So regular customers either go inside or use the tube lanes. The push window is always the shortest so if we're really in a hurry we use the push window and get a roll of quarters, those can't go through the tube.

My pet peeve! People who get the tube, take stuff out of it, sit in their car (apparently writing or organizing stuff), dig around under the seats.. and you're assuming that they are not quite done with the teller. You're waiting, waiting.... waiting. Then they eventually put the car in drive and drive off!!

:rolleyes2

I'm a bank teller too and I know exactly how you feel! However, it really bugs me because our window is for COMMERCIAL customers, who have bags and large books that will not fit inside a tube. So basically they are stuck waiting for something they have to use because the other people just want to use it. We don't get what's so confusing about tubes, there's just a "send" button and a "call" button. However, we just changed hours at our bank, and are getting more traffic back there, so we now have to ask personal customers to use the other lanes so our poor business customers don't have to wait 15 minutes for service.

we don't have those teller windows either.

I also hate when cars do that, pick a line, get in it and let me get in mine.

I prefer the window but won't wait for it. If it's open, I go to it, otherwise I go to the tube.

Nope, we're not allowed to switch them to red.

They actually don't switch- corporate policy. If we have technical difficulties we have to put cones out, our red lights don't go individually.

I avoid the window and go for the tubes. I will actually go in a longer tube lane before I go to the window.
