Bad things that is. I never ever go to mcdonalds. But my newly vegetarian brain is saying that a big mac would be yummy now. Distract Distract Distract. It takes two weeks to make a good habit.

As a vegetarian I have ordered their big mac without beef before. It tastes pretty good actually. Usually you have to explain it very slowly and turn away 2 or 3 of them before they make it correctly (everything but beef patties).

Don't eat the fries. They are coated in beef tallow.

Was it hard to become a vegetarian. Were you so devoted that you loved doing it from the beginning. Did you have little setbacks like sausage on your pizza?

Maybe the craving for a Big Mac is really a craving for protein, which some new vegetarians might not get as much of when they eliminate meat from their diets. Try eating some nuts when you get that craving and see if it abates some. I was just thinking this because about the only thing "good" about a Big Mac is that it has 31 g of protein.

For me it was not, but meat really grossed me out and that was an effective way to stop eating it since it made me gag. I can see why it would be hard for you if you enjoy meat.

Check out this website. It is my favorite vegetarian forum. They are very helpful to both new and old vegetarians.

I have been a vegetarian or vegan for the last 10 or so years.
Sometimes I think the food that I miss is related to an association rather than a specific 'animal item'. When it is cold and wet I often think of my mum's irish stew with mashed potato...................comfort food. It's not really about the meat.:lmao:

Now I have different comfort food and I feel good about the way I eat. Hang in there is does get easier but please ensure you are eating a healthy diet overall.

One of the best things I have done is to have a few visits with a dietician, really helped me get on track. My diet is a little more complicated because I am also gluten free and my son has food intolerances so there are lots of foods that we can't include in our diet.

Good Luck with your new veggie brain and body.

I have read that most cravings are stemmed from your body missing something, a vitamin you are in need of. Now usually the craving will come in a wierd form like someone else mentioned the craving for a big mac probably means your body is telling you you need some protein. If you have a craving for say, a candy bar...you might be in need of some fruit or juice for the natural sugars.

During my 7 years of being a vegetarian, I only craved tacos. The cravng never went away and nothing I tried in a taco substituted for the ground beef. I knew if I caved to the craving, I'd go back to eating meat.

And after 7 years, I had that taco. I am still not a huge meat eater but I do eat it. I guess I couldn't give up the tacos.

I became a vegetarian 22 years ago. I recall having a few challanges, but mostly around not having much to eat in the school cafeteria. Wow, that really was a long time ago!!

If you crave a Big Mac, have a veggie burger with all the fixin's. It may not be the healthiest meal a vegetarian can have, but you'd be surprised now many times it's not the meat you miss, but the presentation or the toppings.

I've also heard that eating meat substitutes can make it harder to stop craving meat, because you never really learn to live without the taste of it. When I because a veggie, there weren't any meat substitute products at the grocery and in restaurants. :confused3

I think it's along the same lines of having your car sitting out in the driveway and not going anywhere for a week.. As soon as it won't start - or it has to go to the garage for repairs - you suddenly remember 500 places you need to go.. LOL..

Murphy's Law, I guess..:)
