did you just swear you were going to stay there forever?! With how hard it was to find this house, the stress of moving, cost of moving and renovations, and labor I've sworn up and down that I'm not leaving even though I know that we'll probably grow out of it.This isn't really our FIRST house, b/c we sold a few foreclosures and the DF had a house already, but it sure feels like our first real house to me. So were you the same way about your first home....are you still there?

Just wanted to add that this is the video of our house click the link and then click the white house that says Tallwood. We have PLENTY of yard, over an acre to add on to ;)

Mind you that this house looks totally different now. We are in the process of replacing the roof, putting vinyl on the storage building, new wood blinds, new paint colors, no wallpaper, new appliances, we redid the entire upstairs master bath, new lighting, and REALLY NICE furniture. And this was all done in 4 weeks! :faint:

I'll post pics of all the changes AFTER all the boxes are unpacked :thumbsup2

We knew we wouldnt be there forever. It was a starter home. It was a small (1000 sq ft) 3 bedroom 1960's rambler. We were there for about 5 years. We do plan on staying in our current home for a long, long time. Of course, with the way housing prices have gone in the area, we will never be able to afford to move!

Our first one was small and affordable, and we always knew we were eventually going to "trade up" into a better neighborhood. Our second home we planned on only staying about 3 years - not sure why though. We are in our third home, and this is where we plan on staying until the kids finish high school (since they're building it sort of right behind our house. This is the first house that I've felt really "settled" in.

No, we knew our first home would be a starter home and we'd be out of it within 5-7 years. We moved into it in 1997 and we built our new house in 2003, so we were there 6 years. :)

I felt we settled a bit with our first house in 2000. We had trouble finding something we liked in our price range. I wanted a new house but we couldnt afford it. We finally found a house and while it wasnt perfect it was good enough for the time. 6 years and a 17 month old child later and our 1500 sq feet is feeling cramped. We've had issues over the years with moisture in the crawl space and after the last repair that cost a few thousand dollars we just decided we were done. So a week from Thursday the house will belong to someone else. But this moving process is such a nightmare. And house prices have gone up so much that I dont think we'll want to/be able to afford to move again for a good long while. Hopefully our new house will contain us for at least 10 years.

We bought our house in 1987. At the time , I thought it might be a 10 year home. Now that my DD are 12 & 15 , we're not going anywhere.
We took a big home equity last year and made the house twice the size.
It ws a small cape cod with no basement .

We did attempt to move 6 years ago, but the thought of finding a new house nd settling the kids in new school was too much.

my mother has been in her house since 1959. it was suppose to be for 5 years :rotfl:

it must be hereditary. we're not movers & shakers

We closed on our first home the week after college graduation. We knew it was a starter as it was only 3BD 1BA. It was affordable and offered enough room for two. We purchased our current home 5 years later as DD was on the way. Its 4Bd 3BA so it is plenty big enough in nice area so we'll probably stay in this one until DD is thru school and we can buy the beach front condo and retire (yeah right)! :thumbsup2

My mom's the same way MuffyCat! She always says "moving is for the birds!" :lmao: Gotta love her ;)

We had to sell half of what we owned to get into this 1400 square foot house. We looked for over a year until we finally found this at one of the best addresses in the area, a quiet subdivision, a huge half wooded lot, with enough space to add on ;)

If we ever grew out of it wouldn't it be cheaper to add on rather than to pay $110 or more per square foot for an entirely new house? :confused3

No, we bought it knowing full well that we would only stay a few years. It was very small (2 bedrooms) but very affordable and there was only the two of us at the time. :thumbsup2

I am going to die in this house. DH and I had it built. Our former mortgage company gave us such a hard time. They were brutal. They would call at 11pm asking for lame things. We gave them 1 YEAR of DH's paystubs and they wanted more. Then, they pushed the closing back a month because, all of a sudden, they wanted a water test. A day before the closing, they wanted to see DH's paystubs from the last 3 months - since we had given them the last package of stubs. During that 3 months, DH went on military duty and had a week where he worked only 24 hours. They called him at work and said, "So, do you normally only work 24 hours in a week?" They pushed the closing back AGAIN because they wanted to see DH working a 40 hour week. It was a nightmare. I was so stressed out, I was loaded up on Xanax during my closing. I don't even remember signing the papers.

So, this is where I shall stay. Unless I win the lottery and can afford to buy a house in cash. :teeth: It's a big house, so it's not a starter house. We love it here and I'm willing to die here. :)

No, it was a started home. It was 800 sqf!!!!! 2 bedroom, one bath. But we loved it. I still miss it, but our home now is twice that size and we love it too. I would love to move to a nice house with some land but I don't see us doing that anytime soon!

Good lord! Do you mind me asking who in the heck your company was? :scared:

We knew our first house would be a "starter" home. 5 years in, and 2 kids later, we needed to upgrade to something bigger. We bought something we could afford at the time, and saved some more money. The move into our first house was fine, but trying to pack and move with 2 kids underfoot...

I absolutely love the house that we are in now, and we plan to stay here at least until our kids are done with high school (and the oldest is only finishing Kindergarten right now).

We bought our first home almost 18 years' ago when we first got married. I loved it when we bought it and I still do! We've made many improvements over the years, and I'm really proud of what we have accomplished. I always thought we might buy a bigger house, but a few years' ago we made the decision to buy a lake cabin. When we made that decision, it ended any thoughts of moving. I'm okay with staying where we are because I love my neighborhood and don't have any desire to move.

When we first bought our house, I thought it would be forever until it was paid off. Now we're just a few months away from having it paid off! I can't wait until I make that last payment!

We bought our first house in 1971 and intended to stay there only 5 years. It turned out that the location was excellent for commuting to almost anyplace (less than 5 minutes from a major MA highway) so we stayed for 30 years. We finally moved when DH retired in 2000.

We now own two condos and spend approx. 50% of the time in each.

DH and I just bought our first house last month. We don't plan on staying in it forever, although who knows what may happen. We have family land that will be given to us, so we hope to be able to build a bigger house (our current house is 3bed 1bath, 1300 sq ft) near our families in 5-10 years. We are planning on having kids in the next 3-5 years, so hopefully we'll be able to build while they're still young and before starting school.

Who knows what will happen with houses in our area and interest rates. When it comes time to build, we may be too comfortable with our smaller mtg and 5.5% fixed rate to want to take on a new 30 year mortgage!

It was H&R Block Mortgage. I met the guy - who was really nice - at a Home Show. Little did I know that his "team leader" and the underwriter were both complete lunatics. :) We were at the house, doing our walkthrough, and this guy shows up. He says he's there for the pest inspection (on new construction  ) and that H&R Block sent him. Fine, inspect whatever you want. When he's done, he comes over to us, says everything is fine (duh) and then tells us we owe him $200. :scared1:
