When you aren't going to Disney...

We've been to a lot of different places since DS7 came along. Some of these were just DS7 and I, others were with other people. We seem to have fun wherever we go. Some of our favorites besides WDW are: the Delaware beaches, New York City (DS's favorite place! I think he prefers it to WDW), Baltimore, Banff Canada in the summer, Skiing at Smuggler's Notch in Vermont, Christmas in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, Sanibel Island, Royal Carribbean Cruise to Bahama's, and Deep Creek Lake in Western Maryland.

We have a vacation planned for this summer to the Colorado Rockies. And Ds wants to try a dude ranch in New York State.

We love to go camping quite bit. It's usually a local state park though. We'll do this a few times during the summer. Other than that our yearly vacations have included HersheyPark/DutchWonderLand, Santa's Village, Story Land and Sesame Place. I think there's other places that we've been but I can't remember right now. We've been to Disney with the boys twice so far and working on our 3rd trip. I'm gonna try to convince hubby that we need to start a YEARLY trip down there. I live in CT so it's only a 2 1/2 hr flight. (now that's a different story) Up until our last trip in June '05, I had never flown (maybe that's why we've always had a vacation where it wasn't a long driving trip) I am TERRIFIED of flying (or actually fear of crashing) but I told my husband that I would fly next year and take my chances of crashing rather than drive in the car for 19 hrs with my kids. Did that ONCE and will never do it again. I have a hard enough time going to Walmart with them (only a 15 min drive) without them trying to kill each other.

North Carolina- either winter to ski or in the summer. we also visit the fla keys. the kids love going there as much as disneyworld..

Bermuda is our favorite vacation spot. It's even better than any island in the Caribbean (and we've hit the majors there...Grand Cayman, St. Thomas, St. Martin, etc.).

We travel often for free because DH travels for work. With his points on airlines and hotels, the only trips we pay for are the Disney ones (except the flight). We have paid for cruises too, but we've also been on 5 free ones with his company! Our upcoming trip to Oahu is free except for food...yay!

We love Williamsburg, Gatlinburg, and the Branson area. Our next 2 trips will be Austin/San Antonio and Hot Springs, AR. We really want to go to DC, Mt. Rushmore and the Grand Canyon. We love WDW, but NOT for every trip. We want our kids to see as much of this beautiful country of ours as possible....oh, I forgot, also enjoyed Hershey, PA and Philly, Mamoth Cave.....

We like to go to Big Cedar Lodge in So. Missouri.
We also like to spend several weekends downtown Chicago, even thought we live in a suburb of it, so we can shop, eat and see the sights.

Next summer we want to go to Mt. Rushmore and the Grand Canyon in my parents 35' RV. DH just needs to get his CDL license for it, since my dad passed this past winter and my mom doesn't want to sell the RV.

We've done Disneyland, San Diego, Vegas (in-laws live there), Wisconsin, Indiana-Amish Country, Iowa, Branson MO.

We like Ocean City, NJ for a week in the summer. (I grew up near there)
We are near DC so we tend to do lots of day trips. We always do a weekend in Baltimore and go to an Orioles game. We did Sesame Place when dd was 2 and it was really cute. Hershey Park, PA for a weekend. We are doing NYC the first weekend in Dec this year and going to the Christmas Spectacular Show! I think cruises are a great option but we haven't gotten around to that yet....

Another vote for Big Cedar Lodge. So beautiful with lots of activities for the kids. My kids have 2 places they love to vacation; Orlando and Big Cedar.

We live near Wisconsin Dells, so we always go there during the winter to one of the indoor waterparks.....DH and I have been to Cancun the past 2 years in January and absolutley love it! We have also been to Las Vegas a few times, and we go to visit family in New Jersey, now eagerly looking forward to our next Disney trip in December!!

Let's see- since DD has been around, we've vacationed at:

-WDW 3 times
-Dayton, OH (to visit Grandma and GrandDad) many times
-Atlanta, GA (to visit Grammy and Grampy) many times
-Grayton Beach, FL
-Charleston, SC
-Washington DC, twice
-Nashville TN
-Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge, TN
-DD and her Grammy went to Portland, OR and Seattle, WA
-this summer we are going on a Caribbean cruise: leaving from San Juan, PR, and visiting Aruba, Dominica, Barbados, and St.Thomas. Grammy is taking us and DBs family.

My DH has asked for the "Disney break" next year, so we are going to do at least one "smaller" trip. We are planning on going to Holiday World (in Santa Claus IN) for a weekend and then maybe go to Tennesse to take my Mom (and my 11 yo DD) to Graceland and also go to Memphis Zoo while we are there. Other than that we are just going to try to save some money. We are wanting to renew our vows (at Disney, of course!) for our 15th anniversary in 2009 and it is EXPENSIVE! We will have to be saving for a while!

We too go to Holiday World!! We live about an hour from there so when we don't go on a major vacation we usually buy season passes for all of us. They have a huge water park and the amusement part of the park too!!

We do an extended family week in the Poconos EVERY July.

We have done:

Hershey Park - Loved it
Williamsburg - Loved it (kids did not care for Historical section though :(
Washington DC - Liked it .... girls liked it - boys did not
Lake George - LOVED IT
Wildwood - Liked it

I want to try Ocean City, Maryland or Niagara Falls soon.....would LOVE to try a cruise or All-Inclusive in the Caribbean.

We go to WDW :earboy2: in the winter. My parents have a house on the ocean in Maine so we spend our summers in Maine. In Feb 2001, my DH said NO MOUSE THIS WINTER...whhhhyyyy :sad2: ...we need to go explore other areas of the country ::yes:: . We went to Vegas and LOVED it. Grand Canyon, Utah, Arizona, Colorado!!! PIKES PEAK...LOVED all those spots BUT BUT by DEC 2001 we were BACK in the WORLD...yup :thumbsup2 !!!!

My DH and DS' have all been to Europe. I do not like flying so I just barely make it to the WORLD...but I get there...yes I do!!!! :wave2:

As I type this POST, DH is actually looking at the DVC book DREAMS that just came in the mail...ahhh, maybe we will buy into the DVC and then that is SETTLED...WDW/DCL for LIFE....pray for me, folks...YEAHHH!!!!

I rather enjoy Myrtle Beach, Gatlinburg and I am dying to go to Cedar Point.

We usually go camping in the summer at state parks. (New York has gorgeous parks, lots of gorges, waterfalls and glacier-made lakes) Usually we'll camp at a park that's close to a city (think Ithaca, Syracuse) or near a touristy place (Renaissance fair) so we can mix it up. Two summers ago we went to Washington DC with my Dd (2.5 years old). It was lots of fun, and makes for a cheap vacation since almost all museums and attractions are free.

We go up to England and to different parts of Wales in our Caravan we've also done Spain and France

Oh! And every June to Cedar Point for DS#1 B-Day and Kalahari Water Park in Sept. for DS#2 B-Day. The little ones still are happy with cake and ice cream! :thumbsup2

We go up to our seasonal campground site  . It is wonderful (but not nearly as nice as Disney). We enjoy being in the outdoors.

The kids and I often travel together without DH because he can't always get time off work so we do a lot of road trips. A lot of our trips are based around interesting factory tours. We've done Hershey in PA, Crayola in PA, Jelly Belly in Wisconsin, Kellogg's in MI, World of Coca Cola in Atlanta just to name a few. The kids had a blast and the sights along the way are part of the fun. Last Spring Break, the kids had the idea of touching the ocean (something they'd never done) so after a little searching on the internet we settled on the location of Ocean City, Maryland (I think I saw a previous poster mention it). It was a great trip and we took a detour through Hershey to do that again on the way home. WDW is fantastic, but there are so many interesting places out there to explore!!!!!
