When will we know opening day?

At one point I said no way would they wait until the Celebration to announce opening dates and now I’m not so sure. I’m still thinking they are going to try and be clever for DL and announce it May 4th. I’m also not sure now if they will announce both opening dates together.

Agreed. There's still way too much that can happen between now and the end of October that could interfere with the construction schedule. I can see them announcing DL at celebration or on 5/4, but i don't think we'll see an announcement on WDW until July or August.

WDWNT just announced that a opening date will be released for Disneyland on Thursday and that WDW dates could be announced at the same time (they suspect a Sept/Oct opening for HS)...

The WDW dates being announced is PURE speculation at this point. One blog post suspects the earlier opening but there's nothing anywhere else that supports it at this point.

That's precisely why I wrote 'could' be announced. With the recent media blitz around SW:GE I would suspect we'll get at least Disneyland dates from the shareholders meeting. I agree the real speculation would lie with WDW dates.

Agreed about Disneyland - the timing is pretty much spot on for the historical 4 month-ish lead time to announce openings. If I came on a little strong it's probably because a few FB pages I belong to have taken that one article and are all whipped into a frenzy over it - even though it doesn't make a ton of sense for WDW to be announced this early, let alone be ready 2 months early.

And they say previews as early as July which I think is way too soon.

Does anything one think that Disney will care that they have so many trips booked for the fall that aren't accurate because so many people are booking multiple. My thought is that once the date comes out many of those trips will be canceled or moved. Do you think they would not want to wait too long (to announce a date) for fear that say October is slow because all the trips that are booked are canceled because SWGE isn't open yet?

Disney will fill those rooms no matter what happens, I don't think they're at ALL worried about that.

Disney's own wording for WDW opening changed from "late fall" to "fall" a while back, so I wouldn't say that a Sept/Oct opening is necessarily 2 months early. November/December opening was pure guessing on most of our parts, anyway. But I agree that they likely won't announce opening dates for WDW this week.

Will they though?

Sept and October are not exactly sell out months like November and December are. Yes there are crowds but not like Nov and Dec. That is the reason I like going in those months

I can see Disney "wanting" to open in Sept or October to guarantee everything is full through the rest of the year.

They will, and I think even more so once official opening dates are announced. For every SW fan that feels a deep need to be there within the first month of opening, there is a Disney fan who wants to get in a trip BEFORE opening to avoid the madness :)

Maybe on Thursday they will say something like "we are aiming for a Sept/Oct opening.

Maybe something like that?

I am so hoping they announce the dates for WDW. For some reason this year my work has decided no vacation time in October, but I've already worked on my boss a bit. At the very least I could go for 4 nights.
