When will people stop perpetuating the urban name myth

My son had a boy in his class last year named Say Grace. I didn't believe him until the teacher sent home the class list for valentines cards. I actually thought it was kind of neat.

My dad is alumni of the University of Alabama. He teases me that he tried to convince my mom to name me "Allie Bama." Thank goodness for my mom. :lmao: Especially because my boyfriend and I are LSU fans. :) (They weren't REALLY going to name me this, but he tells me he wanted to)

I was telling about the OP sayig we were lying about knowing a boy named Orangejello and was told of another different name...
this from a nurse at a hosital in Knoxville: Chocolate Mattress. Pronounced "Shock O Latt MaTrese"
That'd be crazy to read on your roll book one day!

If I'd had a girl, she would have been named Carolina, lol. My sister would have named a girl the same, as we are both big UNC fans. We both had boys though.

I interviewed a girl named Key-ah (you guessed it, pronounced Key dash ah) for a job. The girl was 18 when I interviewed her 5 years ago. I also went to high school with a Mighty Fine and an Adam Adams

Why is this an odd name?? Is it the spelling or the name itself?

I've meet tons of people named Kia, Nia, Tia, Mia...
Takiah, LaKia ...

The name is as common as Amy or Madison. People play with the spelling a bit, but I don't think it's odd. :confused3

I love my DD's first name and I always knew that if I ever had a daughter that I would name her that. But right before she was born I played around with a few other names "just to make sure". I had decided her middle name would be Grace and I thought (for about 24 hours) that it would be cool to name her Amazing Grace. I would call her Maizy for short. But I didn't love Maizy as a name and then I thought that it may get old for her to constantly introduce herself by "Hi, I'm Amazing." So I went back with the name I had always loved. Her middle name is Grace though.

One of my friends growing up had a babysitter named ALAbama Power - no lie! They called her Bama - and I met a Bama the other day who was in her 20s. There is no end to football silliness down here!:rotfl2:

The odd part is pronouncing the "-" as "dash".

We can't forget the former vice president of the IOC - Dick Pound

You know people named Key-ah with a dash in the middle of the name? I know lots of Keyahs, Kias, and Keeas but no Key dash uhs. Sorry, may be common where you live but I've never seen this spelling anywhere that i've lived or traveled.

My grandmother's sister was named Exie. It wasn't short for eczema though. Exie was her name. She was born sometime between 1900-1910. There were 13 kids in the family and all the girls had rather out there names, even for early 1900's standards. Hattie, Exie, Lettie, Fronie, Lily (normal), Bea. The boys had normal names -Raymond, James, and John.

OMG, I was checking school registrations today and we DO have a "Ta-ta". She's in the 2nd grade. What is wrong with these parents??

Is that pronounced TaTa or Ta-dash-ta? :rotfl2:

I met a guy at a party when I was a freshman at Mizzou named Cash Register. The FOURTH. Apparently, whole generations of his family thought that was an awesome name. He didn't particularly appear to.

I didn't believe him at first, but he showed me both his photo on the house's composite pic and his driver's license. Poor guy.

There's a politician in my area who is named Young Boozer. Apparently it's his real name, and he's the fourth Young Boozer in his family. I couldn't vote for him. I figured if he didn't have the sense to change to a better name, I couldn't trust his judgement on anything else, either.

haha 'young boozer'! As for the Tata thing, she doesn't have a longer name like Tatiana or something?

Oh my gosh, we were in your area in May. We saw Young Boozer's political ads. I started calling him Old Geezer.
