When will Disney revert back to using the finger print scanners? Or will they at all?

I wonder if Disney will ever return to using the finger print scanners at the gates? I just don't see how they can prevent fraud in regards to some people using others APs or tickets to get into the parks. Loaning out MBs to uncle Andy and aunt Amy should not be an issue to other family without fraud prevention. They can make a park reservation and just waltz right in, correct?

With Apple having moved away from fingerprint to facial recognition, my guess is that Disney will eventually go to something similar. Fingerprint may stick around for 1st park day “locking” identity to ticket, then later only used to confirm identity if image analysis caught someone.

That would be an excellent idea. Clean, and useful. Didn't think of such.

Universal is still using theirs (or was while we were there right before Christmas)...they were having significant problems getting it to work consistently though. They had two work arounds 1 - try it many times and then ask for a visual id like a drivers license (very slow) or 2 - Bypass it (much quicker). If we watched the attendants for a few we could identify the bypass action and see who used it extensively - much quicker lines to get through. Disney will be smart to go to a better technology.

I doubt the change will happen anytime soon. In the long haul then need some method of preventing a person from using somebody else's MB to enter a park.

It may not be that big of an issue at the moment. But in due time if they don't figure out something, it could really explode into abuse.

At Disneyland, CMs take photos of guests to link with their ticket/AP so maybe they can implement it here. It held up the line when people needed to take their photos but since MDE is used more extensively at WDW, maybe people can take their photo on the app but it would only be allowed to be deleted or changed by guest services to prevent fraud. I know when we used DAS, they took a picture of the guest who needed it so the tech is there.

When Covid becomes no more dangerous than the flu, due to vaccines, they will return. But I also think that facial rec will also grow and reserve the fingerprint when FR fails.

I don’t get why they don’t require ID for the adults. Initially, Universal turned off the scanners and used ID. If you prefer not to touch the scanner, that is still an option. I’d like to see fingerprint scans go away perm- even after covid, it’s still an excellent way to spread other illnesses. It’s nice to walk in the park without needing to wash/sanitize my hands.

They already use facial recognition in security. There's no doubt it will be used to link to your park tickets in the future.
