Darn it, I can't put my hands on the article right now, but I recentley read that Disney will finally loose MGM in 2005. Can someone refresh my memory regarding this matter?
OK, I just remembered. The use of the MGM name comes to an end in June of 2005, at the end of a 20 year contract that Kerkorian tried to squash but was thrown out of court in 1992. So I guess the question now is, what happens to the Great Movie Ride next year with the loss of the MGM movies.?
The Great Movie Ride does not rely on movies that are owned by the curent Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Inc.
For example, Indiana Jones is Lucasfilm/Paramount. Alien is Twentieth Century Fox. Mary Poppins is, of course, Disney. Casablanca is Warner Bros. And classic MGM movies like The Wizard of Oz are actually owned by Warner Bros. because Ted Turner acquired the MGM library of movies in the 1980s for his company, which was later acquired by Time Warner.
In fact, I wonder if any of the scenes in the Great Movie Ride are from movies that belong to the current Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios?
