Still new at this, when can we expect the annual dues to be due. Also when can we expect to see notice in mail. Just want to make sure we are on top of things. Thanks!

The dues bill usually arrives as a "Christmas" present or shortly thereafter. ;)

I believe they are "due" January 15 and are past due beginning February 15 (penalty and interest charges will begin). Those are the dates if you are paying in a lump sum rather than the monthly deduction from your account that some people use.

There is also one other catch. If you have a reservation in January or February, your dues are payble to prior to check-in.

If you wish to use a credit card to pay them, you must pay in FULL at the beginning of the year. Those hungry for frequent flyer miles should note this:D. The monthly payment schedule allows for direct debits from your checking account.......

I believe someone mentioned Thursday, either at the OKW annual meeting or in my discussions with CMs before & after the meeting, that the dues statements will be mailed to members the last week of December after all the annual meetings.

I get them deducted monthly from my savings account. Will I still get a notice of how much they will be?

Yes, you will receive a statement whether you pay the bill in full or choose the monthly payment withdrawal. I do both since I have 3 separate contracts. :)

When I do recieve my annual dues statement will I be given the option to have it withdrawn monthly or will I need to contact DVC accounting to have them take care of this. I am still new at this and it would be great if I could have them switch from taking one lump sum to spreading it out a little.

Jimmytammy, I would go ahead now & call DVC Member Accounting (or whatever the official name is :) ) & ask about having your dues paid monthly.

Is this something new?

We've had our DVC for 3 years and have gone in January each year...and this hasn't been the case for us at all.

We paid our dues at the regularly scheduled time and like many people, we kept it in OUR pockets until it HAD to be in theirs. :)

Did you mean then, that the monthly payments (if you've financed through Disney) had to be up to date? That would probably be the likely answer to the original question.

This has always been the policy. Maybe I wasn't clear. If you have automatic monthly deductions taken from your account, this does not apply. If you are paying in a lump sum, you must pay in full prior to checking-in for your first visit of the year, even if it is before the actual dues deadline. This would make sense since a dishonest person who may be planning to default on or sell their membership, could take their trip and then not pay the dues for the year.

It's possible that DVC doesn't strongly enforce the policy since the "check could be in the mail" but it's in the "fine print".

We pay the lump sum so it would seem that they don't enforce the rules...but it's interesting to know that it's in the fine print...

maybe I'll try to get that chunk of money out before we go! Doesn't pay to take chances I suppose.

Thanks for clearing that up for me PamOKW...
much appreciated. :)

We purchased a resale in February 2001. At the time, we indicated that we would pay dues in a lump sum at the beginning of the year. We had a reservation for January 2002, arriving on Jan 2, so I arranged payment (on my credit card) during the last week of December. When we checked in on the 2nd, the CM verified that our dues had been paid. I assumed that this was standard practice, since I was aware of the requirement that dues were due Jan 15 or the start of a reservation, whichever is earlier. I have since changed to monthly direct debit from my checking account, so this will not be a problem when we again arrive on the 2nd for our January visit.

Thanks fellow DVCers for the replies. I called Member Acctg. today and they said I should receive dues statement within days after Christmas. Also we are able to switch from paying lump sum to having monthly withdrawals from acct.

Jimmytammy, glad to read Member Accounting was helpful & you got things changed. Thumbs up to the CMs who helped!

I wouldn't have given this subject a second thought if it were not for this post :D I'm wondering how my situation will pan out.....I'm leaving (more than likely) prior to receiving my dues statement. I'll be checking in to Vero first and then checking in at OKW on January 1st. I guess I could call MS and arrange for payment in advance. But, what if I hadn't had this memory jogger here? For that matter, I could just pay via phone/credit card once there, but I doubt MS will be working New Year's Day ;)

Jsinohio, why don't you call or email Member Accounting & ask them what needs to be done & how it should be handled?

is there an additional charge to pay your dues monthly?? instead of a lump sum?

There is no additional charge for paying your DVC dues monthly rather than yearly.

How would a single reservation at one resort spanning Dec 29 - Jan 3 count in this situation? Does the start date make it the last reservation of 2002, or does the overlap into 2003 require payment of dues before Jan 1?

My guess is that I'll have to call Member Services if nobody here is certain. If that happens, I'll post the response.

Of course, MS can provide the definitive answer but my guess is that dues would not need to be paid. You may not even get the bill before you leave for WDW.
