When to visit?

Last time we travelled to Disneyland was prior to Carsland in summer 2011. If we are flexible with dates when would you recommend visiting to avoid busy times? We are a family if 5 with our oldest turning 10 in December so would like to go prior to him paying adult ticket!!!

The week after labor day, so the week of 9/7 to 9/13. I went 2 years ago during this time, and while several bigger rides were down for refurbishment (Indy, Space Mountain) the rest of the rides were practically walk-ons. We had to wait 30 minutes for GRR, but other than that it was short, or no waits at all for most rides.

I agree with PP, I have had a lot of success the weekend after Labor Day because all the kids are back in school. If you want to go in December, I would visit in early December, before Christmas/Winter break. This year, Thanksgiving is pretty late (11/27) and I would suggest going the week of 12/1. All the Christmas decorations will be up and crowds will be low in compression to break! If you are willing to pull your kids out of school for a few days, I would recommend it! It is usually not as busy because other students have finals, term papers, etc. I hope this helps!

I've found the week either before or after Thanksgiving tends to have low crowds, with the added bonus of Christmas decorations. The parks aren't open max hours, but I found you don't need it.
