My wife likes Wheel of Fortune. So I made up a game called Wheel of Turtle to surprise her with a trip to Turtle Bay Resort in Hawaii for our 10th Anniversary (gave gift to her on Xmas the year before the trip the following October).
I posted a computer typed note that I had hid mom's Xmas picture and they would have to play Wheel of Turtle to find it! Each day the "tree mail" had a a little task they had to do (color turtle picture, make turtle cookies, find the NASCAR driver that Turtlewax sponsors, you get the idea -- my son loves the Ninja Turtles, so my wife had no clue at all that the Turtle had anything to do with where we were going...) so each day, like 17 days, if they completed the task, they earned a letter that they would get on Xmas to solve the phrase. So Xmas morning they got all the letters in a pile and had to spell out the message to find the gift...well 10 minutes later the letters spelled out "Push play on the vcr" and I had taped a Travel Channel show about the resort we were going to....needless to say, she went nuts!
So it was such a hit, I did the same type of thing for my kids for Xmas last year and called it Wheel of Rudolph (Wheel of Disney or Mickey would have given it away!).
On Dec. 1, I left them a note that said Rudolph had hidden their gift in the house and they would have to complete the tasks left for them as "tree mail" each day in order to find their gift! Fun tasks like making Xmas cookies, cleaning for GMA, taking $ to bell ringers, family game nights, Grinch themed meal...for 25 days leading up to Christmas. On Xmas morning I gave them a stack of 25 letters and with a few letters to get them started, their message eventually spelled out "Check email for the final clue." I had found a talking Rudolph email that I sent to them and he said "Merry Christmas! I am sorry I can't be there to give you your gift, but you have done a really good job with all of the tasks, so pack your bags & your smiles, we are going to Disney World!"
The reactions were priceless -- and on video!!!
Problem is, I have to find something to follow that up this year! We go to Disney World Sept. 25-29, it has been a 9 month wait and they are ready!
See if you can adapted one of these to your situation and make it a game that lasts a few days or more!
Can anyone top that??
