when to start planning for easter trip next year?

Since Easter is 179 days away, it's actually a bit late to start planning now.

Normally, I'd say start looking for airfare and hotel deals 6 months out and make your final decisions before the 3 month mark. However......Easter gets pretty busy at DLR. The week before and the week after Easter are full of Spring Breakers, and the hotels may already be filling up. Definitely start to plan your travel days and look at airfare. Decide on which hotel you're staying at, and even call them to see how full they already are for the dates your planning on. And make sure you can get the time off at work....it would suck if you got all of these dates planned and booked and then have your boss say "no" to your vacation request.

I make cancelable hotel reservations as soon as we decide that we're going. I do keep looking, but can always cancel if we change our minds. We don't do airfare to Disneyland, but for other places we book either 1) as soon as Southwest opens their schedule for our dates or 2) between the 60 and 45 day mark (those seem to be when airlines have the best sales).

Like others have mentioned, I'm also one who makes reservations for my hotel as soon as I decide I'm going, especially around any holidays. I think I had our honeymoon suite reserved 8 months ahead of the wedding, before we even had a venue for the wedding, LOL, because I knew I would get better prices the earlier I booked.

I've been told the best airline prices are 2 months before the anticipated flight... I'm flying at the end of January, and finding some GREAT prices now ($93 from Portland on Southwest with 1 stop and no plane change into SNA, which is usually a $120-160 flight). Just keep an eye on prices, and buy as soon as you can afford/find a good price!

As others have said, I start planning as soon as we have our dates picked. We stay at hotels on Harbor near the crosswalk, and many of those don't require any deposit. So I may book a res. at a couple different places, watch for discounts, and then make a final decision at three months.

I would say you are def. at a point where you should start planning, especially given that it will be Easter. Have fun! I really enjoy the planning and love the challenge!

Haha, I've already booked and payed deposits for our trip next May! I would say start planning now! If you are not comfortable with planning, then I hear dreams unlimited are quite good in that department! I would recommend getting deposits payed on your accommodation as soon as possible as you wouldn't want your hotel of choice to sell out!
