When to start looking for airline reservations?

We're going to WDW in April 2010. I just figured out that I can book our dining reservations in October (180 days is Oct 12th but I think the 90 day rule changes later in October). That got me thinking about our flights. I think last time I booked our Southwest flights in October. I would like to check around and find the best price so I wondered when I should start checking. October?

Thanks!!

We are going in January and we booked today. The flight went up $10 from yesterday to today. If the price is reasonable, I'm usually of the opinion to just book it and be done with it, and then stop checking! You'll never know if the price went down. :-)

That depends on whether you are paying for the flight with points or not. We pay for flights with points and so whenever the flights match the points I want to use I buy the tickets. The main problem with buying too far in advance is that frequently the airline schedules will change so you have to be sure they haven't bumped you into a flight that won't work for you. I have seen recently that flights booked far in advance may not be the cheapest.
