When to Purchase AP?

First, thanks for all the information in this forum! It's been a great help as my wife and I consider a DVC purchase. We were initially excited about the Poly, but have since decided to focus on a BLT resale. I just made a full offer on a contract this morning through The Timeshare Store.

I've got a business trip in Orlando at the end of the month that gets me 2 solo days to play at WDW. We also have a weekend trip planned for May 1-4.
1) If I buy an AP now, can I renew at the DVC price next year or do I need to buy a new DVC priced AP next year?
2) Knowing that prices for tickets will go up before our trip in May, do I wait and try and get my wife's AP after closing or is that cutting it too close? Again my concern being that ticket prices will surely go up.

Current DVC discount for AP is over $100 less! I'm hoping the increase is maybe $20-30!

The only benefit of getting the AP earlier is that you can book FP+. If you don't mind, then I'd wait till you get the DVC discount.

Yes, you'd get the DVC renewal price next year (if you wanted the renewal).

Edited to add: So do you want to save $20-$30 and buy your wife's pass now? Or save $149 and buy it with DVC discount? I guess it depends how much FP+ reservations are worth to you.

I believe the DVC discount of $149 has been the same for a number of years. I would not count on it increasing.
