Hi

When should you join a walk up for a restaurant on the app? An hour before you want to eat? Is there any way to tell when/if you might get called ?

Can you really get into Oga's from a walk up list?

Can only say from my experience in late April while waiting outside Lamplight Lounge with an advanced reservation.
Reservations were running ~20 minutes late that day, but the CMs at the door were still taking walk-ups. (I didn't check the app to see if that option was showing, since we had a reservation and were checked in.) You get a text when your table is ready.
This was on a weekday during the lunch hour, and parties were being told it would be 45 - 60 minutes. Some people walked up to try to make dinner reservations and were told they weren't doing same-day reservations.

We did Oga's as a walk up in March. I kept checking the app and when it said a 20+ min wait, we wandered over there and joined the walk up. We were inside in maybe 10 mins!

You have to be REALLY close to the restaurant to be able to join the walk up list. There really isn't any way to plan ahead for this way of dining. It is all based on how busy they are that day and whether they are even doing the walk up list that day. VERY often, it is not an option. It's quite unpredictable. I would consider this to be a spontaneous dining thing.

The best way to do this is, if you are hungry, or getting there, go on the app and select "check dining availability", enter your party number, select that day, and click on "Now". They will show you a list of restaurants that offer Walk Up wait list and show you their status (whether the list is open or not, and if open, how long the wait is). From there, if you find one that is open and nearby, you can join it. If not, keep trying. The absolute best time to join is RIGHT at the start of their service hours. You can practice from home right now to see how this works. They don't let you actually join unless you are within about 50 yards.

When we were there ... everything had a "Walkup list closed" message on the app but they were still taking walkup requests at the podiums.

Then there must have been an app glitch. The times I have tried walking up, they direct me to use the app.

No idea ... but it was ALL weekend and it was annoying. Carthay, Lamplight, Craftsman Bar... (we didn't try using it in DL proper). Also, if you want to eat at Napa Rose and don't mind eating early (they open at 5:30pm, we walked up on Saturday night at 5:15 and were were seated promptly at 5:30.

Good to know about Napa!

I know we have always walked up to Lamplight and been able to get in. That one never has the walk up list activated in the app. And we have wanted to eat at Boardwalk Dining SO MANY TIMES, but it's never serving food. "Staffing issues", we were told.

We were there this last weekend and the cm at the podium told us to not pay attention to the “wait list has reached max capacity” on the app. She told us to keep refreshing over and over and over until something popped up. We got two walk in’s to Oga (the first I didn’t react fast enough and lost it) the second we got.
I refreshed the app for about 16 minutes or so before I got one. KEEP TRYING you will be able to get it!

Refresh seems to work for a LOT of things in the app. Mobile order windows, Genie+ ride times, ILL availability...

Saw the same thing last fall in the later evenings at Oga's. We had reservations two nights, and the app said they weren't talking walk ups, but while we were standing there we saw a bunch of people each night ask if they were talking walk ups, and they were all told yes and to go get in a line and they were let in. Definitely don't assume a place isn't taking walk ups if the app says they aren't- it is always good to stop and ask.
