So, we're planning a weeklong disneyland trip. Sunday to Sunday probably. I know that we want to go to Legoland for one of the days (rent a car). I'm trying to figure out what day of the week would be best. I don't particularily want to give up one of our disneyland weekdays because that's would be the more quiet days. But I also don't want to go on Saturday because that's our last day and I think that I'd be sad if we weren't in Disneyland. I was thinking friday but then remembered the whole traffic thing......
I don't know what to do!
Any advice?

thats funny....we are debating the same thing.

We will be at DLR from a Monday to Saturday and are thinking of breaking up the trip on a Thursday to go.

Ive read a few reviews that said Legoland wasnt all that, but my kids are very much into Lego's so i feel i need to take them one day while im there.

Be sure to check the AP blackout dates as that might affect your decision on what day to choose.

My grandkids live in Carlsbad and practically live at Legoland. They LOVE it. If you go on the week-end and it is warm there will be lots of people at Legoland. If you go on Friday there will be a lot of traffic all day. How about Sunday? If you go early enough you should be O.K> If it is a nice warm day it could be crowded. Monday could be good because DL might still be crowded but LL won't be. Traffic also is not too bad on Monday either.

Ya, I feel the need to take my lego nut now before he out grows it......also going to disneyland for 7 days I've heard can be a bit much (we're used to 5 days).
So we're thinking november 27-december 4. We wouldn't be able to do the sunday because those will be travelling days. Monday could possibly work.....especially if disneyland hasn't cleared out yet from the thanksgiving weekend. But would I be willing to tear myself away from there is it's right at the start of our trip??

I was just looking at plane and hotel reservations and debating the same thing! I'm thinking of going on a Sunday in September...I don't want to give up a weekday at Disneyland!

I agree with the previous poster. Monday is probably the best day you could go. You could also go to the water park.

We did this in 2008 and had such a great time at LL. We hope to do another day trip to LL during one of our DL trips before my son outgrows LL....and he is almost too old already!

We did a day trip on a Monday to LL. I would definitely recommend going on a weekday. I know you don't want to give up a weekday at DL, but since you are only spending one day at LL, make the most of it. You will likely have much shorter lines on a weekday there.

Whatever day you decide to do LL, I wouldn't do it last. Even though we all had an absolutely wonderful time there, it just can't compare to DL. I'm glad we ended our vacation at DL....we spent our last night watching fireworks and hanging out shopping on Main Street until we were finally kicked out. Ending at LL would just not be the same.

Also....be sure to look into the bogo coupons for LL, if you haven't already! They made a big difference for us.

Not sure when you are going, but we went in either late Nov or early Dec and the park was not open 7 days a week. Be sure to check the schedule. Good luck planning and have a great trip!

I'm wondering this too - but we arrive Tues-Tuesday. Monday would be ideal, but we leave on Tuesday, and I also would like to go to DL at the end. Plus we have to be at DL on Friday and Saturday for the YES educational program (check out info. on this thread on Budget Board - big savings on DL tickets!).

Anyway, I don't know which day to choose!:)

Since we arrive on a Tuesday morning at LAX, I'm now thinking we may rent a car at the airport and drive to legoland first thing, and then drive back to our DL resort area hotel that night, and then just spend the rest of the trip in the anaheim area. Thinking that may be the best compromise- since we have to rent a car anyway to get to legoland, that will save us the shuttle from the airport to the hotel on the first leg of the trip. Can we get a shuttle to the airport easily from the hotel (hotel menage)? (Sorry, off topic).

Are you going to Disneyland on Sunday and will you be using your early entry that day? If so, then I would pick the Tuesday for Legoland. If you're planning on using your early entry Disney day on Tuesday, then I would go to Legoland on Thursday.

We left our Anaheim hotel (on Harbor Blvd.) around 8:25 in the morning (on a Monday), and were parked and waiting at the LL gates well before they opened at 10am. We had zero traffic going down.

After park closed at 5pm, we went and ate nearby. (We didn't want to waste any ride time by eating dinner in LL.) There are tons of restauants near LL (driving distance, not walking). We were trying to stay in Carlsbad long enough to avoid any evening commuter traffic heading back up to Anaheim on I-5. Plus we didn't want to wait until we got back to Anaheim to eat anyway, because we figured the kids would be tired.

We won't have an early entry with the YES program tickets - they are discounted and don't include that. We are getting 4 day hoppers so we will probably just go a half day at DL on the weekends, with one full day on Wednesday and/or Thursday.

We had planned to include a day at Knotts Berry Farm, but I am thinking now I want more down time than that would give us. So start out at Legoland and then come and go to DL all week, with a day or two of just pool time sounds good right now.

And my kids are 9 and 11 and the primary reason we are going to DL in California is so they can visit Legoland. They are Lego obsessed! (although I did hear after we made the trip plans they are also coming to Florida so we'll have to visit them someday).

Be careful about this, in particular for those of you planning in non summer months. Because it has the park, aquarium and water park, and they aren't open 7 days a week 52 weeks a year so if you want it all make sure you know what will be open during your possible visit period.

We chose Monday because that's homeschool discount day. :) The discount is substantial, so it was pretty much the driving factor of our schedule. We did plan the rest of the trip around Monday being in the middle because DS wanted to check the DTD Lego Store, then the Legoland shop, then still have a chance to go back to DTD if he decided what he wanted was there after all. :) Yes, I scheduled my vacation around a 13 year old's shopping plan. :rotfl2:

I think they'll be closed on tues and weds.

So I guess monday or thursday would be best. Thursday would be a better disneyland day though wouldn't it?

What time would the traffic lighten up on friday?
