When to go 2019

I cannot see them doing that in 2019 for SWGE. It seems to already be a bit of chaos in May even with current offerings. I suspect you agree.

Yes, what/if/how the SoCal ticket promotion will work next year is a total mystery. If they actually do offer it again, it would have to be altered in some way to adjust for the obvious upheaval that will come with the opening of SWGE. (Given the havoc wreaked last year when the promotion expired and the expected havoc this year, I just can't believe they would simply reoffer the promotion in its present form.) There's already talk about the promotional CHOC Walk tickets for next year -- how will SWGE affect those (because you know it will)?

I feel like next year is extra hard since so much is up in the air with when star wars opens, if paint the night will stay around and things like that.

This is exactly why people around here strongly advise that if it isn't a specific goal to see SWGE, that if at all possible, you try to schedule your visit this year or at least for early next year before SWGE will open. Even with PTN, we can only say for certain what the official word has been: it will be around at least until September 3rd of this year.

I get about planning before, but we can't go this year at all its not an option. But seems like Early in the year is not going to be worth our money if a bunch of stuff will be closed. We come from florida and won't be back for 4-5 years at minimum. We finally have a year we can make it work. I don't even know how to predict Spring Break crowds with how late Easter is.

Peak Spring Break at DLR tends to be the two weeks before and two weeks after Easter. With so many states and districts to cover, some school breaks will fall outside of those dates, but those usually are the busiest weeks.
Remember, that even in refurb season, even if "a bunch of stuff will be closed," that means a lot of stuff will still be open.

This may provide some long term guidance based on DLR history until we get closer to that time:

Yes but I am from Australia. It will be a 14 hour flight. If June. That is peak time. I usually have a vacation every two years. This will be approaching four so not sure if to wait longer or just do it! I do wonder if Disney hotel guests will get 'extra time'

Since this will be such a "big" vacation for you, have you considered using a specialized Disney travel agent? For example, you could contact someone at Dreams Unlimited (the agency that sponsors these boards). No vacation can ever be truly "perfect" in every sense of the word, but you've been planning this trip for so long, and it clearly matter so much to you, that of course you would want it to be as good as it could be. You might want to call in a professional to help you with all the answers (Disney, Beverly Hills, etc.) and with extra information that a professional can access more easily for you. Just a thought...

we are going to go next year. Our dates are flexible. We can go anytime from February till before Star Wars land opens.

When would be a good time with the least amount of refurbs and decent entertainment schedule.

I think the best time is early February. The fall seems to have the lowest crowds while still have the least amount of refurbs too. But, if you go early May you might catch lower crowds and 95% of the rides ready to go for summer.
