When to do a PTR?

When is it the right time to do the PTR?

Number of weeks before trip?
Does everything have to be planned?

Its entirely up to you .

The only time I did one was when I was planning a surprise trip for my DD, so I couldn't talk to her about it, so I came on here and jumped about on my PTR instead .

When ever you feel right! Starting them too early they may start to get a bit hard to fill but if you feel like you just want to have all your plans in one place start it now I just like to have some where to keep all my mindless blabbering lol!

I am in the same boat i am going in december for the first time at that time of year for my birthday trip but am not telling my children til the day before (they think we are taking them in march )

i have loads of questions about the christmas parades and want to plan everything perfectly as its going to be a dream trip for me and a very special one ( my grandfather died and left me some money to do something magical with the kids rather than leave it stuck in a bank bless him )

the only thing that is stopping me is i dont know how to upload photos

i see my PTR as a way to vent everything that i cant say to the kids heehee xx

I know what you all mean about having some one to share the planning with.

Well might start my trip report this weekend then as going in just over a month.

DH sleeps most of the time and DD is 16 and does not want to over plan. I need somewhere that I can share my excitement so PTR it is.

Hi Barrington.

The thread is in the trip reports section.

Do not worry about planning your trip.

I love to read lots of trip reports, try not to look at photos, get a feel of what people are recommending at that time as things change all the time.

Then I think about what me and mine like to do. As we have been a few times and me more that rest of family we do not over plan any more. Have a list of must does and then just go with the flow. Have to be careful though as the time does fly past and sometimes I have chilled out so much I forget to do things

I feel planning is part of the holiday and I try to have an idea of what we will do depending on the weather. Doing a PTR helps me thrash out my ideas of what we want to do and if we will have time and energy

I think I started mine a couple of months (or possibly more) before our trip. I used it as a reminder of all the things I still needed to do for the trip. It helped me to be super organised.
