Our next planned trip is over a year away, and I'm having a ball reading the boards and gaining so much information for our next trip. I have a question, though. I know we can't book airfare just yet, but how far in advance would be recommended? Is it better to wait until closer to trip time, or book as soon as possible? We usually book through Travelocity or some other such place, where cancelling is not an option. TIA!::MinnieMo

I find I generally do best booking 4-6 months out. If you're traveling during a holiday or school vacation week though I would book earlier. When we travel during spring break I book as soon as the flights open. I've never seen the airfare go down, just up, up, and up.

Unless it is a peak time like Thanksgiving or school break, it is best to wait for a sale.

Somehow I don't like on line travel agencies because I hear and read about so many complaints about the agencies when a change needs to be made or when a refund is appropriate and due.

I would book about 4-6 months ahead of when you are going. I always book with expedia, because I have never lost a seat yet. I usualy fly with delta, and since they are always changing things I like expedia. I do pay a $5.00 booking fee, I feel it is worth it. Plus when I have to call them, i get through right away and it doesn't take long.
