When Size Does Matter

I got some very helpful information about Disney NOW how about Universal and Isaland of Adventure. I am a 26/28 and from the little bit of info I could find. It doesn't look like Universal has taken the larger size riders into consideration.

Can anyone give me some measurements or sizes that might fit on the roller coasters and rides??

Why don't they have hip and chest measurements on their signs like they have height restrictions. You know like if your hips are bigger than ___ and your chest bigger than___ you might not fit on this ride.

Thanks in advance for any help

hmmm- I think I remember Dueling Dragons having one "special" seat in each row that was designed for bigger riders. Our first trip there in Nov of 2001, I was a size 26. I rode it- but all smooshed in there. Kraken at SeaWorld was the same way (there it took two people to get that stupid seat belt thing buckled from the arm bars to the crotch strap- ughh! I came close to telling them to forget it!).
I know that they have seats outside of Hulk that show you what the seats are like and tell you if you may not be comfortable, but I don't remember seeing if they have the bigger seats also. I hope someone else has better answers for you!!!

I am not sure on the specific reason as to why they dont have the chest/hip dimensions, but I can still provide you with info.

You should not have any problem with the majority of attractions. Most have a lapbar that comes down to the largest person and when it's locked, you're good. Some lapbars (BTTF, Jimmy Neutron) are a little more specific, as they must reach a certain point for the computer to read them as locked. I'm not sure about JN, but I know that at BTTF, the ground level has cars that are more accomodating for larger guests, especially in the front row.

MIB has a test seat out front, but that's just to see how you feel in the car. They have a seatbelt/lapbar combination that works wonderfully.

At Doctor Doom's Fearfall, Dueling Dragons, and Hulk, they have test seats at the front of the attraction. Dragons and Hulk have two seats - standard and larger sized - you can try. Doom only has one size. As long as you can bring the harness down and click the belt in, you're fine. I also know that some larger guests have found the seats at Doctor Doom more comfortable than Hulk/Dragons.

This should help.

LOL!!!! Love the title of your thread! How funny!!!!

I have to agree with DM, you should have no problem.

Have fun!

the 3rd and 6th rows have bigger seating for us large folk. I chose the 6th row most everytime and had no problems.

Thanks for this thread. It's something I've been wondering about as well. :D

We were in Jimmy Nuetron anxious to go when they delayed and had to check lap bars because one wasn't locked in place. It had to be embarassing for the lady that, because of her size, couldn't pull the lap bar down far enough. She had to move to the stationary seats up front.

My DH is 6'1 and weighs around 320.He hates to go to theme parks because he cannot goon the rides he just waits for me and he kids to ride and has to walk around with us without getting to experience all the fun I really feel bad but my kids prefer theme parks to any other vacations.I am planning a trip to WDW/Universal for 2004 and he is not at all enthusiastic about it in fact doesn't want to go at all. Please tell me if there are things he can enjoy with us.Thanks!

I am 6'6" and have no problem (well, a few I am tight in the knees on) at all, either with WDW or USF/IoA. I must say though that I do not ride any of the coasters at IoA.

The over the shoulder restraints cause difficulty since they must fit relatively snuggly on such a huge range of body types from little kids to grown adults.

gonnago....mY Husband is very similar in size to yours..if not even slightly bigger. He han't had any problem with the rides at Disney. That includes Rock n rollercoaster with the over the shoulder restraints. He has done...RnR, Tower of Terror, Thunder Mountain, Splash Mountain, and every mild ride. He doesn't like the simulator ides so I cannot speak for rides like Body Wars or Star Tours.

This will be our first trip to Universal so I am very interested in this thread.

Last time we rode, a gst with a large upper body was moved to another "side" of the tower. Seems like there is at least one seat with a longer belt... not sure about that.

Regarding the "Big Boy" seats (a name sometime given by coaster fans for the seats for guests with larger upper bodies on the B&M coasters), the seat is the same. The latch for the restraint allows it to be locked higher and the 2 seat belts are the back up. So, if its the seat shape in itself that gives the challenge, the Big Boy seat may not help.

I got to tell you... the Universal and WDW are wonderful compared to what the german regulation forced an amusement park to do in Germany! They opened a rollercoaster similar to the famous Millennium Force at Cedar Point and they were forced to put ultra short seatbelts on it! Taken straight from the park website: your waist size has to be less than 37 cm... meaning 13-14 inches! I know a friend who went recently there, at 5'11-6' for 215 lbs, the 2 ride ops had to do an inhuman effort to strap him in!
