When should wedding invites be sent out.

My DD is getting married October 2012 at the wedding pavillion. We live in PA and everyone going would be coming from out of town. She sent out save to date cards. I'm anxious to get the invitations out as I have already blocked a group of rooms; want to block group airfare when SW comes out with the prices; and anxious to know who's coming. What is the proper time frame to send out wedding invitations for a destination wedding?

People on here send them around 4 months ahead. You could send out a newsletter or a pre-RSVP that has all the information for booking.

I don't know "proper etiquette" for the dates but I do know that when a family member had a destination wedding the save the dates went out a year ahead (a few days after she finalized her date) and then the invites were sent out 6 months before. The wedding was on a cruise so that gave everyone plenty of time for passports and taking off of work, booking flights, and all that jazz. Hope that helps

ours went out several months ahead, but NOT before the actual contract with DFTW was finalized.

We're getting married next April and I plan on sending out formal invitations around the end of January. I did send a STD at a little less than a year out and a tri-fold brochure with booking and wedding info as well as a pre-rsvp postcard at the first of August.

I did the brochure so I knew my guests had all the info they needed to make travel arrangements and it also answered basic questions about the wedding and pointed them to our website. We included pre-rsvp postcards so we would have a better idea of how many to expect. We got about 1/2 of the pre-rsvps back so far and the deadline was last week. I'm not going to bother tracking down people over the pre-rsvps, but I still think it was helpful to give us a basic idea of how many to expect. FYI--we sent out 75 and got back 32 so far....and they are still coming in here and there.
