when on dfd plan you receive a single check?

or a check for each person in your party? also, do I need to hand in all 8 fdp cards to the waiter?

If you're all on the same hotel reservation, then you need only one bill, and all of the Dining Plan credits for all eight of you are on any of the room keys.

If you're on separate reservations, you'll need to ask for separate checks when you order your meals, one bill for each party.

You tell the wait staff that you are on the dining plan (no reason to mention it was free, makes no difference) and how you would like the bill separated. Each room only needs one card to be handed in.
