It's never too late but there are a few drawbacks.
We decided not to go on our spring break one year. Well, there were blizzards the whole week before the break started, our car got stuck in snow drifts 3 times that week.
By Friday, I just texted DW, "Still sure you don't want to go to Florida?" She replied with, "Make me an offer!"
So, rule #1: No chance of a discount or deal from Disney. Period. It was rack rate or nothing, so it cost more, but at least there was availability.
Rule #2: To get reasonable airfare, you have to be very flexible and even a bit creative. After hours of searching every site I could think of I decided to see what one-way fares looked like on our available airlines. Lo and behold, there was a huge difference in the cost of flights down compared to flights back for each of them. So our flights there we were on United with a longish connection in Houston. Amazingly, the cheapest fare coming home was a non-stop on Westjet.
Crazy as it seems, we booked it all on Friday afternoon, flew out Saturday morning and had a great week in the Florida sun. Yes, it cost several hundred dollars more to do it but to us it was worth it to escape that dreary weather.
