When is the best time to camp at Disney?

If we went, we'd have a full RV and heat and all but i'm hoping some other family would join us and if so, some would be in a tent. But assuming that doesn't happen, is there a time of the year you absolutely think is hands down the best or worst to camp at the Fort? Are there heated pools there?

TIA
:)

We do not tent camp,,but by my way of thinking, , anytime would be a good time.
Altho I'd try to keep it spring or fall for the best temps.

Yes,,pools are heated, great winter swimming.
Right now the pools most likely feel like hot tubs.:confused3

tacatcon,

Welcome to the Camping Board party:

For tent camping, the spring/fall times work best. The pools are heated but the weather is very nice during this time of the year. The spring is busy due to spring break times all over the East Coast so I would advise the late fall if you can manage it. Also the Spring has Easter weekend and the spring in general is a higher priced time for these reasons. I'd say any time after Labor Day in the fall is low crowds and good weather (although still usually daily rains in September) and October is especially nice because of the mild temps, the Halloween colors, smaller crowds, and less rain.

So I would advise a fall trip as a first priority followed by a spring trip if you can get there. Summer in a tent can be hot, humid, and wet due to typical Orlando weather that time of year. It's manageable to sleep in a tent if you bring an A/C for the tent (as some do) but my personal favorite is fall.

Good luck to you!

Oh man, Frank beat me by one minute! ED :lmao:

We camped in a pop up in late July. The AC unit made the camper cool enough at night and we were gone in the day but the sheets stayed damp from the humidity. It was sweltering at the parks and it rained hard a lot in the afternoons. It was okay if that is the only time you can go but I would not make that my first choice. We are going over Thanksgiving and can't wait to see the Fort in the fall.

Sounds like you turned off the AC during the day. Leave it on, maybe turned down to provide some cooling but mainly to control the humidity.

The fall, mid Oct - early Nov, seems to have the most comfortable temperatures & still be able to enjoy the pool. Also, the crowds are lighter that time of year except for Halloween. During the spring you are fighting spring break, Easter, school functions, and grad nights crowds, plus the fact most people lean towards taking a spring or summer vaction.

The hardest part, when we used to go only once a year, was making ourselves wait for a fall trip. Even though we knew it was better to wait, sometimes we just couldn't stand it & went in the spring anyway.

We have tent camped in July but I think it was a cool front:) We had a big fan that kept us nice and cool at night. We slept on top of the sleeping bag and used a sheet as cover. We also have camped Oct. week of Halloween in 5th wheel. It was hot, but we had the air, we also had some allergy issues during that time:confused3 We will be tent camping in Nov. this time. All the above was at the FT.

We love November/December - the weeks *around* the holidays. Lower crowds and usually mild weather (hardly any rain), although temps can be all over the place.

Early Dec used to be our favorite - the holidays at WDW are definitely magical - but the crowds have steadily increased the past several years and it's hardly "low" any more.

Last year we went the first 3 weeks of November and it was AWESOME. Weather was mild (temps varied a little, but no rain/humidity) and crowds were the lowest we've ever seen - especially the full week before Thanksgiving week.

While we missed the officially holiday kickoff (typically the day after Thanksgiving) MVMCP and Osborne were in full swing and all 4 parks were decorated by the middle of the month so it was still a very festive time to go. :santa:

...plus we hit the end of F&W - BONUS!!

We like any time between Jan 1st and Dec 31st. There are some bad things about any time and lots of good things. You've got cold in the winter, hot in the summer, crowds almost any time.
I may want to re answer that after next weeks visit. But the availability of the grandkids is what decides my dates.

I am loving this thread! Our reservations are for the second week in November and we will be tent camping, Lord willing.

I have to agree totally with Papa! Anytime is a good time at the Fort. :woohoo:

Thank you all for your input. I would love to go in November because one of the things I've always wanted to do is check out the Food & Wine Festival. We'll have to see. Last time we went we went in late April into early May and had a blast. I didn't think it was too crowded. Crowded but not as bad as I had thought. It's tough now to do a trip not in summer with 3 kids in school. They have started cracking down on kids' absences here so it might have to wait til next year as my oldest is in the most important year of school so far, Junior year of high school. But if we don't do it now-not sure I'll get all of them together!

Now I've just got to talk my dad into going! That could be a bigger challenge! He's the one with the RV. :rolleyes1

I believe there are threads here showing you how to bound and gag a non beleiver. Stuff them into a cargo bay and go. Just do a search.
