When is right to ask how much longer for your table after waiting a long time?

A few years ago my family & I went to Boma for dinner on December 31, 2002. Now we knew they would be busy because it's was New Years & because they were busy when we had dinner there 2 days earlier. I remember that we had priority seating for 7:00 PM, however we were not seated until 8:45 PM. Now I remember asking around 8:15 when my family & I would be seated? Anyway when any of you have been at WDW & had a priority seating on a busy holiday, how long do you wait to ask until you & your family will be seated? Yes I know we all have to wait, but I am sure we all have our limits & would wonder how much longer until they call us.

If we are not able to be seated on time, I ask how long it will be. When it starts getting close, I start watching to see who is left in the waiting area. If it looks like the same people waiting with me, I am ok. Once it gets 15-20 min past the time they said, I stroll up and very nicely ask how long it might be.

On our last visit to Boma, we a funny thing happened. They had called our name and we came up to the desk to be seated. After we checked in with the hostess, we move up to wait to go back. 4 more names were called. These groups .. same size as ours .. walked around us and were seated. DD24 waited till a suit walked by and then said quietly "Mom, all these people are going ahead of us". Well, 3 suits almost ran behind the desk .. asked our name and found out our slip had been put in the wrong place. We were then escorted to one of the best tables I have ever had at WDW! and told they were very sorry over and over!

So .. ask .. mistakes do happen!

Mistakes do happen and we usually will ask after about 15 minutes after our priority time. Since they keep a list of names, we find it easier to ask where our name is on the waiting list. Most places are really good at telling you if they anticipate a delay or are running behind. We just returned last weekend after our 2 week spring trip and found it common to be told an esimate of our wait time and found it to be pretty accurate. Our longest wait was at LeCellier and we were seated about 20 minutes after our PS...7:20PM. We generally expect a wait if our ADR is later in the evening vs earlier seating times.

I agree with CoolDisneyCat. I watch who comes in after us with same party size and then if they seem to get a table before us and its after our Adr time, one of us takes a walk to podium to inquire how much longer. We tend to have our TS meal at lunch time so we don't usually have too many of these situations. We did however have to get a little forceful ;) at Sci-Fi in January when our time had passed by almost 20 minutes and people who checked in after us had all been seated. We were told by CM at podium, we would be next and then seated two more groups. My husband lost it a bit. I think that they were overwhelmed because 50's Primetime was closed for renovations.
