In another thread, a recently returned cruiser stated...

On Castaway Cay, if your kids want to play on the jungle gym in the water make sure they do it early in the morning. The tide goes out about noon and they close it for the rest of the day.

This cruiser believes that the gym is openned or closed based on the level of the tide. But the timing of the tide is based on the phase of the moon.

So if they are correct that the gym closes based on the tide, then the times for when the gym is openned or closed should change with every cruise.

Does anyone have any information on what to do to determine when the gym is expected to be open/closed?

And by-the-way, thanks to tawasdave for pointing out the fact that the gym does indeed close at times. I was never aware of that fact.

We have been to CC 4 times, all in August during full moon. The jungle gym has never been closed when we were there. I think when there is a full moon the tides are the highest. But I am no expert on tides, just know it was never closed when we went. The other post was the first I ever heard of it.

Your welcome..I am just ashamed that I did not think about the tide is based on the moon and changes all the time...I knew that..oh well. They have a measuring stick on the side of the jungle gym..when we got there in the morning water at gym was about 7ft deep...by noon it was 4 ft and closed. Would be nice if they put open and close time on Navigator for CC day..I am sure they must know.

marky..we had a full moon also and it closed about noon...

This is the first I've heard of the Jungle Gym. I haven't seen it on the DVD or anything. Is it for little kids (3-6) too? 7 feet of water seems pretty deep for a kids area. Anyone care to describe it? Does anyone have any pictures?

Your child would have to be a proficient swimmer. There is a lifeguard out there, but it's a fair ways out. Our DD paddled out using an inner tube, and she only jumped a couple of times because she got tired. I went out with her to be sure she would be okay. If your child doesn't swim well enough to go off the diving board or slide at your local pool, they shouldn't go to this.

There is a high tide and a low tide every day. The problem is related to the time of day that the low tide occurs. This obviously causes the jungle gym to be closed. Tides shift by about 1 hour every day so there are only some days in a month when low tide would be during the day and only a few days when the actual low time would be during swimming time.

Here is a link to the tide times for the bahamas - of course every location on earth varies slightly but the times would be within minutes

(I can't seem to get this link to work, if you are asked a location, type in: Settlement Point, Grand Bahama Island, Bahamas)

I would love to see a picture of the jungle gym. Anyone have one to share?
