to my children last night, I started to stop because I had read a long time. My husband said, "No, read one my chapter, please!" I thought it was so funny that he was intently listening to me read. He wanted to hear what the Indians did to the Ingalls.

WEIRD!! I was JUST discussing this series this morning! I LOVED those books growing up. Well, that and all the other books I could get my hands on.

Funny about DH!!!

I have seen the TV show........never knew it was a book

This brings back memories. :) I read the whole series when I was a child. I think Little Town on the Prairie was my favorite. :teeth:

I was just going to post yesterday about the books...I just finished re-reading the set...what great stories! I love these books! (but they are keeping me up late because I don't want to put them down!)

Our family loves Laura's books. I grew up reading them and read them to DH and the kids after I got married.

A few years ago we went on a wonderful vacation. We visited the places that Laura lived. Want to read my trip report and see some pictures? Our website is www.schones.net. I'd highly recommend the trip to Laura fans.

I enjoyed your trip report. I'm going to show it to the kids when they get home. Thanks for sharing.

The books that I am reading from are my books that I kept from my childhood. My children think it's neat!

Glad you enjoyed it.

As she read these books to us, my brother and I asked my mother if she rode in a covered wagon when she was little. She wasn't pleased that we thought she was that old. ;)

My DD got the set last year for her 8th birthday. She loves the books! I have been having a good time re-reading them myself.

Weird. I was reading it to my son last night.
Pete is 7, is that too young to start reading it to him? He loves the Junie B. Jones books which is strange because all the boys at his school do and I thought it being a "girl" that boys wouldn't be interested.

Those were my favorite books growing up..loved em.

Pete's Mom, give them a try. I know I was younger than that when my mom started reading them to us, because I remember her reading to us in bed in my bedroom at our old house. We moved out of it when I had just finished Kindergarten.

I just visited your web page and all I can say is WOW! :teeth: Sounds like you had a great trip! :)

Pete's Mom, my children are 7, 9 and the biggest one is 42. I think Pete is definately old enough. This summer we're going to Cherokee, NC to visit some of the Indian sites.

I have read, re-read, and re-re-read the entire series, as well as anything else I could get my hand on about or by L.I.Wilder. My DD's name is Laura Elizabeth, after L.I.W. I have ALWAYS wanted to visit her home in Mansfield Missouri and I finally am saving for the trip. DD and I are going next year when she turns 10, sort of a mother/daughter pilgrimage. I'm sure it will mean much more to me than to her though. And someday I hope to do a tour/vacation of all of her homesites. Anyone ever done that? I'm hopping over to see MerryPoppins website about her trip as soon as I hit submit here!................P

Pete's Mom,
My DS is 9 years old. I would have never thought he'd be interested in these books (I never wanted to read them when I was a child and I hated the show), but it was his idea to read "The Long Winter". He read that about 6 months ago (when he was 8 years old). He seemed to really enjoy it, so we've bought him a few others. Now he doesn't really want to read them, but he wants me to read them.

A few years ago, when camping in the pop-up, I would read to the kids every night to wind them down. One trip I took "Farmer Boy" ( I already know all the books myself by heart!) and read a few chapters each night. And DH would always make me promise that we would not begin until he was ready, too! One night in the Mamouth Caves area, a huge storm blew in, and totally freaked out the little ones. It was a pop up, afterall. But I kept reading, and it semed to calm everyone.

DH days the only thing he didn't like about that book is that it made him hungary all the time!!!

MerryPoppins, I am so envious of your trip!! That is exactly what I would like to do!
I was glad to hear the Mansfield is near Branson. I would like to plan to go to Branson and possibly hear the Osmond Brothers sing. Do they still own a theater there? If at all possible I would like to schedule the trip so that I could see Donnie sing... that would be the icing on the cake for me!....................P

Another series that Little House fans may like are the American Girl books. There are 8 girls, living at different times during American history (1764 - 1954) and each have a series of 6 books.

We are reading through these aloud to our DD7 and she loves them.
