I identified most clearly with Arthur Detrick on Barney Miller. I didn't necessarily want to be him, but people who knew me claimed that I was him.

I don't think I ever wanted to be a character on a show - I wanted to play them. I had a whole spin-off of Bewitched planned, with me as her younger brother. Now I might be embarrassed to write it, let alone act in it.
