I know everything starts may 5, 2005, but does anyone know how long the anniversary events will last into 2006-I can't find out from the official site.
It's my understanding that the 50th anniversary celebration will run through the end of 2006. Which probably means it will officially end in January of 2007.
Actually the "castle cake" from WDW was just for the 25th anniversary celebration in the mid-90's. Disneyland's castle is going to undergo a transformation, although it won't be quite as dramatic.
There will be new paint and large crowns on each of the towers. A nice and fairly accurate photo can be seen if you visit www.dlrnews.com

I must be in the minority but I actually liked the "castle cake" at WDW. I think it was cool to see the icon transformed the way it was. It created more for of the fantasy illusion. I have a wonderful framed poster of it, as well as a figurine that sits next to my figurine of the original version of the castle.
The castle cake is the first that my DDs knew of WDW! Their first visit was during the 25th year anniversary...so they would have been thrilled if DL did the same!
