When does school start in your area?

All schools resume on 8/20/03. We will be out the Friday before Memorial Day. This is a county wide mandate here. In a way it stinks, but it's really only a week or so before we would normally resume AND we get out earlier! Works for me. . .the kids are worthless in a classroom after Memorial Day anyway!

Most public schools in metro Atlanta area start anywhere from August 5th to 11th, but let out by May 21st or so. We are in private school, we start August 18th and get out on May 28th.

But, really, I wanted to thank you for posting this thread, as we'll be visiting at nearly the exact same time you are and were wondering about the same thing -- what are the crowds like?

It seems like late August all-but disappears from the calendar in most guide books and websites. Crowds are heavy through the first two weeks of August, and they're light in September, they all say, but there's never any mention about the end of August!

English schools start back beginning of September and Scottish schools middle of August so there will still be a fair number of Brits there.

Crowds are moderate last week of August. 10- 15 min lines. Many tourist from Europe at this time. Lots of us from NY there that last week.

We live in the Jacksonville, FL area and our schools start August 7. We will get home from vacation and 3 days later our daughter goes back to school

Here in Southern NJ we go back after labor day. We did'nt get out until June 27 though!!!! We always travel during the last two weeks of August and usually have a great time. Crowds are usually moderate!

Schools here go back on August 4th, and school is scheduled to get out on June 3rd.

Cobb County, just north of Atlanta, goes back August 11 and gets out May 21 this year. My DD5's private school goes back Sept 2 and gets out June 9.

Most schools in NE Ohio start August 25. We went to WDW last year the third week in August and from what I could tell, it appeared less crowded.

Hello! School starts in our area on August 26th....I am one of those people who just doesn't DOOOOOO HOT so, We tend to go more in the September through December thing. Last time we went we did the first week of June and it was HOTTTTTT! I am from Michigan and we are used to a lot of humidity but the heat combined was almost too much for me. I ACTUALLY lost 10 lbs which was a miracle considering how much I ate! Unless your kids go to school year round (which they do here in most of the schools) the end of August should be fairly safe. We got out of school on June 18 & will be starting up here in New Hampshire on August 25. We used to always go back after Labor Day & like that much better. Too many teacher workshops & inservices so they make us go back earlier. We'll be @ Disney the 1st week of August, always a good time for us. Enjoy your vacation! Cathie

Most English schools are just STARTING their summer break this week. DS started Friday DD and I (I work at her school) break up on Thursday. The kids go back on 3rd Sept. I go back the day before.
